How do you know your blood type?

When I was pregnant I didn't have any blood tests and i was wondering about what happened at the birth and if i had needed any blood after how would they have known my blood type? would they have tested for it at the time or do they have some type of blood suitable for everyone like something they give to people who have been in accidents and stuff when its an emergency and they don't know the type?

Update:

Is it always in the medical records, do they like take it when your a baby? because i've never had blood tests and I wondered how they know?

When your a baby the health visitor gives you a heal prick test, they check for your blood group there, i'm not sure if this is still what they do, but that's how they done it years ago. (UK)

Your doctor should've taken your blood, it's essential to know your blood group incase you need a blood transfusion in delivery, o negative blood can be given to anyone, but it's way safer to know your blood group and be given the right kind of blood to stop other problems arising.

I don't think they would test it right there and then if you were in an accident and needed blood because it takes 2-3hours to test the blood and you would probably need the transfusion right away.

I am very surprised that you didn't have any blood tests - your doctor was not following best practise. There are so many reasons why an initial blood test, followed by a diabetes blood test are important! The doctor likely tested your baby's cord blood, and based on that, decided that you did not have any concerns re: the rh factor. If you needed blood, your doctor could have ordered you O- blood, or tested you stat, and given you blood based on your blood type. remember that people who come in after a trauma often do not know their blood type!

hi hun being as i am o- i will tell you this ,if that where to happen it is usualy in your charts but if you needed it you can have o- and it will match with your blood it is rare blood and it is universal so it would nt be a problem to use! you can also call your dr and ask or ask your family,or your childhood dr

edit when baby is born they always do take some blood because that's the only way they can tell what baby's have hun atleast they do in my state(MISSOURI)

sorry i ment to add they they do a blood sugar test on baby and can check the blood type with that when baby is born!

The doctors know, they find out when you get your blood work done in early pregnancy. You should try and find out because it's a good thing to know in an emergency. You can go to your local blood bank and if your able to give blood, donate and then ask them what your blood type is

you hit the nail on the head. There is a unique blood type O negative that can be given to absolutely anyone, people who donate it are know as universal donors. Although they will try and match your blood type as best they can, in an emergency last resort they will use O negative blood

it is a good idea to know your blood type for safety reasons, but in case a transfusion is needed the hospital will always check (type) you anyway. Don't worry.

If your doctor has not record of your blood type (ask), check your birth ceritficate, since many states list it there. Ask your parents if they know. Don't worry.

  • They get it at your first doctor visit if you don't know already. I'm 21 and I've never known my blood type. I asked my doctor, but I forget. I'm going to ask again at my next appointment, but whatever it is, it's -. Because I'm Rh negative, I had to get a shot at my last appointment.

usually they test you for it so it may be in your records. But other then that O neg blood type is the universal donor that you would receive if they dont know your type.

based on the descriptions and my honest decision [frequently biased] I in high quality condition AB and O with not one of the negatives although my self assurance may be perceived for arrogance solar - Aquarius Moon - Aries lower back bias from decision :/.... human beings opt for what they opt for and it may't be the certainty additionally in basic terms 4 types... Dunno my extremely blood variety :/... yet i would not be shocked if it replaced into AB or O... even though it is 50% hazard blended If I had to in high quality condition each and every to somewhat O = hearth or Water B = hearth + Sag + Pisces in line with hazard Water AB = Air or Earth actually A = Earth... in specific Virgo.... additionally fixed indications and Water indications, probable fixed Water too those descriptions are somewhat too lots of each and every sign and not difficult under pressure right into a sparkling determination yet lower back like the previous question i might say if somebody had like a setup with maximum cancers solar Scorpio moon and a lot of water without Air and then "have been given" [chosen] Sanguine... i may be like duuuuuuuuuuuude.............BS!!!!!!!!!!... Liar!! in assessment to human beings i'm no longer politically appropriate, i'm honest... And astrologers do in comparison to working backwards, or asserting a demonstration is not extra of "this, or 'that" ... I have not have been given any interest in doing that extremely if that's the certainty....

Ask your doctor. If he/she does not have it in your med. record then request for one. When the baby born, they test him/her for blood type, ask so you'd get inform.
