How can I become a guide dog trainer...?

I don't want to work at a guide dog school, but I would like to train guide dogs, and/or other assistance dogs. I am not looking to make a profit, just to do something good.

Is this a good idea? Is it possible? How would I go about doing it? Are there any laws for how they must be trained, or any other regulations I should know about?

I've been doing lots of research, but I haven't been able to find anything about becoming an independent guide dog trainer.

I will not be doing this in the United States or Canada. I would like to work in Brazil. If anyone has any experience, or knows anybody that can help me, I would appreciate a point in the right direction :) Thank you!!

Update:

Thanks for the advice... that is basically my plan. I'm going to the only place they train guide dogs in Brazil that I could find (which, luckily, is in the city I am in).

But my other question is... if people won't hire without experience, how will I get the experience?

You are going to have to carefully study the laws concerning guide and assistance dogs in Brazil. Many countries only recognize dogs trained through specific training programs, usually ADI recognized programs.

I am glad you are meeting with the local guide agency. Honestly, the best approach is to apprentice with them. Apprenticeship will mean doing a lot of the grunt work--cleaning kennels, bathing dogs, feeding and laundry however you will also be able to learn the skills necessary to train a dog. Without the proper knowledge or experience, training a dog to guide/service level isn't going to happen.

    Good luck.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMfuE

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Every dog needs some type of training. The first class I ever took a dog to was https://tr.im/crAOY

It's a very basic kind of class. They will help you with your dog, and show you how to work with your dog at home.

They'll also answer any questions you have about your dog's particular problems and how to handle them. The most important thing in dog training is to be consistent and work with your dog at home on the lessons. The PetSmart class teaches sit, down, come, and the very basics every dog needs to know. They will also help socialize your dog. You are unhappy with an untrained dog, and believe it or not, the dog is actually unhappy to. You need to take your dog now, as the older he gets, the harder it will be to correct your dog's bad habits. Plus the classes are fun for you and your dog. My dog went from that first PetSmart class on to advanced obedience classes. You might also contact your local humane society. The one in my area offers obedience classes with a very good trainer at a reduced price.

An independent dog trainer I have ever met began their work working for someone else. They learned all they could and than set out on their own.

No one is going to hire you unless you have an established reputation. You can acquire that through learning and working for someone else. There are no guide dog trainer training schools that I know of. People learn by doing.

As I suggested final evening, you first ought to earnings the regulations in Brazil to be certain the standards of instruction manual/service canines coaching. they won't even recognize service canines or in the event that they do they in all probability must be accepted from an approved college (many times with an information canines international or international instruction manual canines Federation). regulations in different international locations are extremely different. After examining your remark approximately canes, i think of you need to do somewhat analyze on blindness in the previous you attempt to step into this. extra people who're visually impaired used canes than they do canines. There are extensive reward of case (as there are others with a canines). extra effective, as a fashion to receive a canines, faculties require the guy to be gifted in O&M (cane use) in the previous they are going to be standard to this methodology. As a coach, you will ought to lean how a cane and O&M works to boot. And 'some form of experienced canines' is not extra suitable than a cane...with one incorrect step a instruction manual can place their companion in a existence-threatening concern. As for the service canines college, it seems such as you nonetheless choose undemanding understanding on canines, disabilities, and regulations. perchance in case you have been heavily breeding and training canines for 20+ years and training them to intense tiers as working canines (poliece, gun canines, seek and rescue) a SD coaching college ought to no longer be advantageous. yet to me it seems such as you will ought to earnings the talents from the floor up which incorporate canines habit and progression in the previous you need to even think of of coaching a canines. So i'm not sure the place the 'fluff' comes into it.
