Would Christian parents genetically modify their baby...?

... if they could remove a gene that would make their child gay (or more likely to be gay)?

What would genetically-modified Jesus do? I think it would be rather duplicitous for them to modify whatever their God has chosen for their child to be, don't you? What if genetic tests suggested the child would be gay, but no genetic modification was possible ... would they have an abortion?

Will all the age-old fear and hatred of homosexuals ever end?

From what I understand, Christians do not believe homosexuality to be a genetic trait...they believe it to be a choice, one that can be corrected with Gods help and family love and support and all that blah blah blah.

I do believe in God, but no, I would not have any gene removed (unless it was one that would cause death, mental or physical retardation, or some other thing like that). People are unique, when you start altering their genes to make them more of what you believe is perfect, people lose their personal identity and all the wonderful things that make them different from everyone else.

EDIT: LOL - and to prove my point, read the comment below!

Sorry I don't believe homosexuality is found in a gene. http://www.leaderu.com/jhs/satinover.html

But even if it was I still wouldn't. We all come into life with various handicaps we have to overcome. Some are just harder than others. you don't make excuses for it. The show Dexter was a good example. He was a cannibalistic sociopath. Yet because of his adopted parents love he was able to control his responses & even went into a helping profession (forensics). He only fed on evil people. It sounds corny but it's possible. Nuture or nature argument have gone on for years.

I know straight men that have no desire to sexually be with another man but love wearing silky or soft clothes, played with their sister's dolls or even have the stereotypical talk & movement. I also know gay men that are construction workers with deep voices and five o'clock shadows by noon.

We are so quick to judge others by the visible. My son had wavy black hair with golden highlights, pale blue almond shaped eyes & long eyelashes with a medium complexion. He rarely cried. But he has dyslexia & autism. My daughter had bright red hair & blue eyes & constantly screamed for attention. She was on the honor roll from kinder garden. I love them both deeply though my daughter has caused me more anguish than I ever dreamed possible. I thought she'd be the easy one to raise. God knew better.

God is God & I am not nor do I want to be. The Lord has a direction for all of us. To remove a single step is to risk losing the way. He's in control & I'll leave the chosing up to him.

I'm sure that some may...but for the most part, let's hope that nobody would genetically modify their baby. That's scary, crazy, and unnatural.

And most Christians don't believe that people are born gay, right? So, what would be their argument for that one?

No....no more than they should change a gene to make their child red-headed instead of blackheaded. God created and continues to create. Man has no business tampering with his divine plan.

Now, remember, it is one thing to call ones self a Christian, but quite another to live the life of a Christian....so I cannot speak for the non-Christians who call themselves Christians.

No christian would attempt to modify a baby to remove an imaginary gene. Being gay is a choice and the best way to prevent it in your children is to raise them in an atmosphere where they have appropriate training and appropriate contact with people of their own sex. That way they will resist importunations by homosexuals later in life , knowing what is appropriate.

No, because by doing so, they're technically proving evolution.

I'm totally going to when I have children, I'm doing a degree in fricken biotechnology, once I'm done, I'll do it myself!
