Do you mean accents like these:
á é í ó ú: Hold option and e
à è ì ò ù: Hold option and `
ç : Hold option and c
â ê î ô û: Hold option and i
ä ë ï ö ü: Hold option and u
œ : Hold option and q
« : Hold option and \
» : Hold option and shift and \
€ : Hold option and shift and 2
To use the special character pallet to type accents on a Mac:
1. Click edit
2. Click Special characters
3. Keep the pallet open for use in any application
You can type French accents and immerse yourself in French at the same time on a Mac OSX by setting your system language to French so that your OS as well as most Apple software use French:
1. Go to System Preferences
2. Choose International
3. Change the system operating language to French

The easiest way to do this without constantly going to other sites, who knows you may not have internet connect all the time, is:
Go to your system preferences, then select "International" [the icon that looks like a flag]
Then once your in, click on the "Input Menu" tab,
Then scroll down and check the French box and numerical box if needed,
Then at the very bottom click "Show Input Menu in Menu Bar"
Exit Screen
Next you will see a flag of the country you choose if it is not alreay there.
Click on that flag,
Next a Characters palette will appear,
Double Click on the characters that you need for class project while writting your paper,
and there you go.
Hope that helps.

I tend to use google to find french characters, copy them all to a text file, and then copy paste when i need them
