For parents, most useful things to have when bringing baby home?

We're having our first somewhere around June 26. I think that we're pretty much set on clothing and baby gear but I keep getting suggestions from other parents that I've missed. Ex: Baby Tylenol.

I'd love to get some more suggestions from other parents to make sure I have my bases covered.

About us:

We will be breastfeeding and cloth diapering (prefolds and bummis covers). I will be home for the first 4 months. We do have our own washer and live in a two bedroom apartment. We have two cats. We're having a boy. :)

Thanks

Mylicon drops for gas--those things rock!

Lots and lots of burp rags--we call our son Sir Spits-a-lot lol

Nursing pillow--it helps tremendously with nursing

Water bottle--to fill with water when you're nursing. You get so thirsty when you nurse, and having water there helps you let down and makes you feel better

Receiving blankets or a swaddler--my son slept so much better as a newborn when we swaddled him tightly

Congrats on your little boy! Boys are fun (I'm sure girls are, too, but I have no experience with them!)

One thing I wouldn't have thought of is an extra fine nail file to do their nails. It is much less scary than trying to use nail clippers!

Lol, the most useful thing to have is help!!! Our friends brought us dinner a couple times a week for the first month - it was wonderful!! If you haven't had a shower yet, you could consider asking your local friends for 1 meal as a gift (otherwise you get more socks/hats/bibs/receiving blankets that you will ever need anyway!!). If you have parent/inlaw you wouldn't mind visiting early on, that can also be a great help. Ideally someone willing to cook, clean, and change diapers!

Some other things that are nice but not necessary are a special swaddling blanket and a white noise CD (they also make special "womb noise" ones or ones that are inside a stuffed animal "sleepy sheep", but standard nature noises are fine). Both those things are great for calming a baby, esp under 3 months. I wouldn't have really thought of that on my own.

Baby saline drops for his nose. My son was so congested when I brought him home I had to clean his nose every day.

Emery board nail files. My son has the longest nails and he scratched his face up in the first few days. I was to scared to use the nail clippers on him that soon.

Practice learning how to eat with one hand for awhile my son always some how knows when I am going to eat and that is always when he wants to be cuddled.

Since your breast feeding I would say make sure you have breast pads for when your not feeding to soak up an leakage you may have.

Hope this helps and congrats on the baby boy!

    Baby Swing

Play gym (even at a few days old she would look at stuff and be entertained by it, we have the baby einstein ocean adventure gym)

    rocking chair for breastfeeding

sleep sacks for nighttime (in case your baby hates being swaddled like mine does!)

    Boppy pillow

nursing nightgown, nursing tank tops (for wearing around house)

    good luck!

Bobby pillow for breastfeeding! And I would take it to the hospital with you. It would have been a lifesaver for me in the beginning.

Snack-type foods for mom. You'll be too busy to eat real meals, so you need foods you can eat with one hand.

    Burp cloths.

I swear by a wet wipe warmer because every time I had to change my kiddos with those ccccold wipes they screamed for hours.
