What should I expect if I join the US Army?

Hey, all my life I've always thought about joining the army, being a part of something everyone will remember, walking around knowing everyone respects you. I do in fact realize that it's not a walk in the park. If you are willing to do so, tell me some stories about your experiences. good, bad, it doesnt matter. i know about bootcamp and how difficult it can be, but i know i'd do fine since im doing my best to stay as physically fit as possible. also, my parents are completely against the idea so convincing them will be near impossible.

Fort Benning ~Home of the Infantry~ sole purpose is creating Infantryman, NOT basic soldiers.

Training is a blast. Did you say you enjoy yard work? Because no matter what your job is supposed to be you will be mowing grass, digging grass out of cracks in sidewalks, spending entire days inside doing food service. In the military, the government has paid for you and they need someone to do all the ***** jobs. If you have low rank, that's you. They certainly don't hire a landscape service to keep the base looking nice.

I did my basic in Ft. Benning as well. If you can't be Infantry, then don't bother...while you're at it get Airborne in your contract prior to basic. You will feel pride for the rest of your life. Every challenge after your time in will seem trivial. It was the best years of my life...yes it was hard, but I feel great for what i did.
