If he gives you a good assessment ask for a promotion. You've now been sitting at the top of your grade for 2 years and if you're as good as you say you are they will consider it. If they don't find another company that will appreciate you.

To say you are at the top of your pay grade and then heap on more responsibility is taking advantage if not taking the mickey. I suggest that at your next appraisal you make it clear that you want an increase even if it means that you move up a grade. I they do not cooperate then find another job, if you can in these difficult times, and then they will lose your or they might then make you an offer.

Don't wait for the appraisal speak to your employer now , ask him outright if you have reached the pinnacle of your career with this company .

You shouldn't have to say more for him to guess you are thinking of moving on to another job with better prospects.

Hopefully he will just try to reassure you at present and it will leave him in no doubt that he should not overlook you during the appraisal .

If your not happy with your raise when it comes then perhaps you should start looking elsewhere for employment ?

You can ask if they can change your salary grade, although it's highly doubtful they will do it, especially with the jobs situation the way it is.

Many years ago, I was in the same situation, the only way I could get them to consider a change my salary grade was to turn in my resignation. When they realized I was serious, what they did instead of actually changing the grade, was to give me a promotion, which put me in the next higher grade.

I wouldn't suggest you try that now.

See what happens in your appraisal first of all - sounds like you're so good at this job they ought to be promoting you.

If they don't offer (much of) a payrise, then it's wise to have to hand a list of reasons why you think you deserve extra pay, such as the quality of your work, the extra responsibility you've taken on, the fact you help sustain profits etc. You then make it very hard for them to say no to your request. Try to pre-empt any reasons they might give you as a negative come back, and have an answer ready prepared.

Go for it, good luck x

I think reaching the top of a grade applies to many people on this site and we are stuck with it.

In my organisation the only way you can change a grade is by asking for the job to be evaluated and re-graded on the grounds that what you are doing is in excess of your current job description and carries more responsibility and/or duties.

I would negotiate to get the median (76K) or a couple thousand higher. If you have the experience and the education under your belt, they could probably spare a few more thousand for that. But don't get too cocky. They may pass on you for someone cheaper with the same credentials.

Most companies have established pay grades to insure equal pay for equal work and avoid lawsuits. Generally the only way to get decent raises when you are topped out is to change jobs. Go for your boss's job.

    Smitters,

Give me your boss' email address so that I can send him/her your question showing him/her that you have plenty of time at work to write questions on Yahoo Answers.

That way, you can see why you don't deserve anymore raises.
