How much $$ is fair pay to a babysitter.....?
~ I would like to have my grandaughter visit a bit longer this summer,,,she is 7,,,very very well behaved,,,,I want to pay my friends 15 year old very responsible daughter to babysit...they would be basically hanging out together,,,watching TV,,crafts,,,eating,,lol....I work 40 hours and would like to pay fairly....what should I pay per week,,,plus I would give spending money so they could go to the movies or bowling a couple times a week.....
~ $10 an hour for a 15 year old to watch TV? come on.....thats $400 a week? 7 year olds are self sufficient...they need someone around to make sure they are safe,,,,,,$10 an hour???? dont think so..

$3.00/hour is probably the perfect amount for a 15 year old. Being that young, it would probably be good to pay her once a week so she has something to look forward to, and can think about what she wants to do with it instead of immediately spending it - which would probably happen if you paid her daily. And I'm sure she simply "can't wait" to be paid any longer than a week. $3.00/hour works out to $120/week and is more than enough for a young gal.
And all these people saying $10.00/hour are just crazy! I'm not sure if they've HEARD or not. . .but we're going through a recession. Plus, she's FIFTEEN! You're not hiring a professional nanny with certifications and cpr training - you're hiring your friend's 15 year old to basically do enjoyable activities with your well-behaved granddaughter.
To be honest, if we weren't living in the day and age we are, where teenagers expect to get more than they really need or deserve - I'd say pay her $2.00/hour cause what in the world is she really doing? You might think about it still. $2.00/hour plus she can snack to her hearts content and you're already going to be giving spending money for out-of-the-house activities. You might also want to pitch it at a weekly price for her because she will hear the hourly rate and think how little money $2.00/$3.00 is and not compute the whole thing to mean $80.00/$120.00 a week.
Hope this helps!!

I would suggest looking into the average for your area. The average pay for a teen can vary from $4 and hour to $10. In my area $10 an hour is reasonable.
You need to look at it this way. You are paying the girl for her time, as well as watching your granddaughter. Even if she is just watching tv, she is not doing other things. She is giving up hanging out with friends, going to the beach, etc, to be at your home. It is not just about her watching your granddaughter, it is about giving up doing other things to be at your home.
You can ask the girl what she charges, but if it is $10 an hour, then you may need to find another person. Think of it this way, if you are paying her very little money, the first time she gets a call from a group of friends to go hang out at the beach, she is going to call you about an hour before she is supposed to be at your house and cancel for the day. If the value of going to the beach is more than the small amount of money you want to offer, than she is going to go with that.

For a 40 hour week I would not pay by the hour.Just state a set sum.A 7 year old does not need all the care that a baby would.More companionship.Maybe $125 that is $25 a day.

Check out the local daycare centers. For her age you would probably pay about 100-200 a week. $10 an hour is ridiculous that is more than minimum wage. Why even go to work? I used to babysit my neighbors grand daughter and they paid me $25 a day. Plus I had to provide food. I think $20 a day is fine for her age and she can use it towards school clothes. That is very reasonable since you are also giving her spending money and not expecting her to spend the money you give her.

If you doing a 40 hour week, it will be cheaper to agree on a price
My neighbor does home day care, she gets 150 dollars per child
I would ask her to do it for 125 and see what she said
Maybe even 100, depending on where you live
Maybe more depending on where you live
If you pay her ten dollar an hour, you are looking at 400 dollars
That is way to much
40 hours get paid by the week, not hour, so I would fine a price between 100 dollars and 400 dollars

I think $10/hour is more than generous for a 15-year-old. I have a 14-year-old babysitter whom I pay a set rate of $25 a day.

I suggest you ask around what teens are getting to babysit in your area. Yes in some areas teens get $10 sometimes $15 an hour. If you're not willing to pay that then maybe you shouldn't have your grand daughter until you have ample time to spend with her rather than having to leave her with a sitter. After all is she there to visit with YOU or a sitter?

i would say if i were in you shoes given the ages of the sitter and child i would probably pay them 75-100 a week since you would be giving them money to go out and do stuff.i would think that is fair.
