Where do some folks get off saying that some people are not "true Christians"?

I am an atheist but I know enough to realize that a Christian is someone who believes that Jesus is the son of "God".

Just what makes some of you people so perfect and wonderful that you can judge others to be "false Christians"?

It's called the "'No True Scotsman' Fallacy" -- you'll see a lot of it in these parts...

  • Because being a "true" Christian is not just believing that Jesus is the Son of God. It is living their life by following all the teachings of Christ. False Christians are those who judge others, those who spout religion and then live their lives committing sins left and right, those in this forum who ask insulting questions about atheists, those telling others they will go to hell, I could go on endlessly. These are not people who are reflecting true Christianity and they are giving a bad name to Christians so much so that many of us feel the need to say "true Christian".

Well, a little kid could could realize that. I don't judge (or at least i try not to) i'll leave that up to God.

Many people claim to be christians, but fail to live up to their name. Do they live by the bible? Are they doing their best to live up to the command jesus gave us "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you."

Do they have a true understanding of the bible and what God says, or do they choose to follow men's doctrines?

True Christians are admonished to “keep testing whether you are in the faith, keep proving what you yourselves are.”—2 Cor. 13:5.

A true christian lives by the bible and let's it be their guide in life.

You can't be a christian when you feel like it or when it's convienient, you must live it. That is a true christian.

Christian means Christ-like or Follower of Christ. It means you're trying to walk the walk, talk the talk. Some people are saved, going to heaven, b/c they've accepted Christ as their savior but it doesn't mean they're following Christ yet. But they call themselves Christians. All the titles don't really matter, but as for your question, Christian doesn't mean someone who believes Jesus is the son of God. But really, instead of people on here saying other people aren't "true Christians" they should say the person is not following after Christ, not living or speaking like He would. I try not to use the phrase true Christian b/c it's really misleading.

Christian does not mean believe in God. Christian means Christ-like. That's why a lot of real christians don't consider themselves as part of a religion, they just call themselves believers. I can give you a ton of examples of people who i met on here were not remotely close to being christ like. that's the difference buddy and before you argue i used to be of christian religion, but it wasn't until i became an atheist that i became christlike

Nothing makes us so perfect and wonderful that we can judge others to be false Christians. But Jesus is so perfect and wonderful that He can, and He thoroughly explained both personally and through apostles what a false Christian is and how to recognize one. So when we see them, we're just recognizing that those are what Jesus was talking about.

We should not judge. To hear people say things like that are very offensive to intelligent people, believers or not. No one should ever presume to judge another.

There are some groups here that do not teach sound doctrine according to the bible.

Unfortunately, the way they are being corrected isn't always the right way.
