For running not racing you should go with Brooks but for actual racing spikes go with Saucony. But really it is your own preference.

As the people before me have told you, go to a specialty running store, they will take care of everything. I work at a shoe store so I see a lot of people everyday come in. Now, most people are neutral or have a mild pronate, which means you need a stability shoe. I would recommend that you get either the Asic Gel-Nimbus's which are a great neutral shoe, or in my opinion the best running shoe is the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8 or 9, you can eights for a good deal because they are on clearance, but 9's are just as good. Happy running.

First off, you need to go to a running specialty store. They will look at your feet and recognize what type of shoe you need. In cross country especially if you do not get the right shoe for you, you will get injured. Running specialty stores may cost slightly more than department stores, but by getting the right pair of shoes, you are avoiding a lot of pain, and money spent at the doctors getting your many injuries checked out. Personally, I prefer Mizuno, but a lot of my friends like Asics. That's for training though. For racing, you may want to consider getting cross country spikes. They improve your times by a lot, and let you get a good foothold. They are much better than training shoes for racing, but again, you have to make sure that you get the right pair.

Depends on if you want them for racing or training. Also depends on your stride, your feet, your mileage, etc. Go to a local running show store and they will be able to help you out.

Depends on what type of feet you have. I'm kind of flat footed and all my years of running, Brooks has always been my best friend.
