Trying to throw a Mad Tea Party themed welcome back party?

One of my best friends went to live with her dad for a year and is coming back when school is over. We all want to throw her a birthday party and a mad tea party would be perfect since we all like Alice in Wonderland and she was once in a play with a few of us where she was the red queen.

I was wondering if anyone could give me an opinion:

Do you think we should dress up as characters? (we will not be going very disney if we can help it)

Should we have it at the park or at home?

What are some low priced decorations you would suggest?

Would you make this a surprise party?

One Idea I had was inviting her to one of my friends house and have her take her 'on a walk' towards the park and then have a white rabbit costumed friend meet them halfway and take them to the party.....

Any other ideas for us? Game Ideas? Costume Ideas?

ps: we also all love horror movies so if you know any good alice-esque ones we would love the heads up :)

I would have it at my house. You should be able to find decorations at a dollar store. I would use black, white and purple. buy funky big tea cups and mismatched saucers and get big funky hats for everyone. Let your imagination have fun with it.

That is so weird I just did a fashion spread inspired by the book.

What we did was just let the costumes be INSPIRED by the book. The caterpiller wore very NYC chic clothing and a cigarette, alice wore a silky dark blue dress and dark makeup, the queen had a lacy cape like dress. Take the movie and make it a bit darker and it will be very nice. Google the Alice in Wonderland Vogue spread and you will get some ideas.

I would do it in someone's backyard if you can. If you can afford it, get a tent and set up a real tea party! Borrow things from grandparents, etc.

And of course make it a surprise party! Alice needs to be shocked aha. but make sure they have somehting to wear. I love the idea of the white rabbit. Make it a girl in a white dress holding a pocket watch if you can find one, and have her lead her out back.

For decorations, go to a vintage store or goodwill and get some lacy table clothes and cut them all up. They sell elegant looking paper plates and stuff too and party stores. Paper laterns would look sick too.

Good luck- you just inspired me! haha

whats up, it is your special day so that you may want to do inspite of the reality that you desire :D i would not have my personal wedding ceremony like that, yet i imagine themed weddings are a blast and respect those who've the heart to do them! in basic terms keep in mind that those are the images and memories you've gotten something of your existence : ) if that sounds swell, then bypass for it!
