Why do the muslims in Indonesia have names which relate to Hindu Gods and Sanskrit words? Are they Hindus?
Were they forcibly converted to Islam !?

Long before Islam was introduced to the archipelago, Indonesia largely consisted of Buddhist / Hindu kingdoms. So the Hindu history is longer than the muslim history. Many Indonesian words originate from Sanskrit. Indonesian traditional architecture also shows many Hindu elements. You can see obvious similarities between traditional Indonesian and traditional Indian architecture. Hindu mythologies (Ramayana, Mahabharata) were also adopted into Indonesian culture, and Indonesians consider them as an Indonesian myth, not Hindu.
So the names are largely cultural, not religious.
Indonesian Christians and Buddhists also often have names derived from Hindu Gods names / Sanskrit words.
From accounts in history, Islam was introduced to Indonesia through peaceful ways, mostly by trade and marriage.

When religion becomes a cultural thing instead of a heart thing, people use religious terms to name almost anything if they like the sound of it, but don't understand the deep meaning.
I suppose muslims name their kids after Hindu Gods like Hispanics would name their kid 'Jesus'. In this instance, Catholicism is just cultural and not heart-felt.
I also remember parents in the muslim north of Nigeria, naming their kids after prophets from the Bible.

I'm a Hindu and believe in the 'one god' theory. I felt your question was interesting. There is one god, call him by any name , with devotion and he's there for for you. But I also agree with Islam -4. You shouldn't have quoted your last question. The question by itself might have been good but your comments did the damage and made the purpose of your asking the question clear.

Here in England, people frequently have Celtic names because of our ethnic background, but that doesn't make us Celtic pagans. Indonesia is the same, in that it has an Indian past. It shows up in their language, for instance the word "saya" means "slave" in Sanskrit and the word "bahasa" is also from that language. Similarly, English has a mixture of French and Germanic words because of our history. It isn't hugely significant.
