If hell exists, why is it such a bad thing to be in a state of nothingness eternally?

I was looking at modern day perceptions and I can't see the deterrent about hell. You would not know you are in hell as you would not know of your own nonexistence and God is still present but you just don't know of it.. Can someone explain this idea pleasee

thanks! :)

It is Not a state of nothingness eternally

Hell is a place of eternal fire and punishment

    Unquenchable Fire

Matt. 3:12 "And His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

    Fiery Hell

Matt. 5:22, "whoever shall say, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell." See also, Matt. 5:29,30.

    Fiery Hell

Matt. 18:8-9, "And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire. 9"And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out, and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into the fiery hell."

    Eternal Fire

Matt. 25:41, "Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.

    Eternal Punishment

Matt. 25:46, "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

The word 'eternal' in both places is "aionios" which means 1)without beginning and end, that which always has been and always will be; 2)without beginning; 3)without end, never to cease, everlasting. The word 'punishment' is the word kolasis and it means "to punish, with the implication of resulting severe suffering - 'to punish, punishment.'"5

    Eternal Fire

Jude 7, "Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire."

    Lake of Fire

Rev. 20:15, "And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

Hell is real, the torments are real and you will feel it.

    Luke 16"24

Then he cried and said Father Abraham have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water to cool my tongue for I am TORMENTED in this flame.

Jesus spoke of the torments of hell more than anyone, what do you think he was talking about when he said there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, and the worm never dies.

There are groups hear that don't believe in hell, they are being deceived and they're deceiving everyone else with is teaching.

    They are wrong.

If you believe in Jesus, then how can you call Him a liar and say he is wrong about hell.

Stop looking at modern day deceptions and read the bible, just not the NWT, that translation has been tampered with so many times, it sad.

The soul is the human spirit + the emotion, feelings, thought and reason component. The subconscious mind of the soul is aware of the pain and suffering which it experiences while in the body and these findings have been made through clinical hypnotherapy. The pain of a sin-full life is carried like a burden or weight in the soul.

Hell is a place for the soul which turns it's back on it's maker. The reason why the soul goes to hell, is because it looses it's ability to discern good from evil. Instead of choosing to do what is right, it chooses to pursue what is wrong and so it strays from the path of understanding which can lead it back to oneness with God. It forgets where it came from and where it is returning to.

Once the soul is in hell, it is tormented by the other souls in hell who are cut-off and separated from the upper heavens by a barrier of water and fire. Those souls can never escape the torment which never ceases because no soul is ever allowed to rest in hell, and they are tormented by their own guilt and by the horrors and tortures which are instigated by the demons which rule hell. The pain and the suffering are eternal because time is not measured in hell.

There is also a stench in hell which is sulpherous and choking. The soul goes about in darkness and gloom and the pains and brokenness which the soul experiences while in the flesh are magnified in the spiritual dimension. The souls in hell also pursue their own lusts, just as the did on the earth so that they indulge in the same fornications which they were doing while on the earth. They experience loveless copulations with each other so that they degrade themselves even further in sexual perversion. Unforunately their lusts are never satisfied because they are cut off perpetually from the love which comes from above.

The message in the bible is that the devil is creating his own kingdom and this by corrupting souls who are ignorant of spiritual truth by deception. Instead of learning about spiritual truth and God, the soul is absorbed by worldliness and so the devil is able to slowly ensnare the soul with darkness causing all belief and faith in God to be eroded.

When the soul dies in unbelief it's lack of spiritual development makes it easier prey for the demons who will try and trick the soul into decending and not ascending into the light.

Imagine being in a place where there is so little light you cannot see properly, where cannot hear anything but screaming, agony, crying, taunting, filthy language, where you can never experience rest, but only restlessness, extreme heat, fatigue, misery, worry, anxiety, hatred, grief, guilt, lovelessness, joylessness, seperation, tortures, perversions, perpetual lies, discord, disharmony, unrest, violence, graphic brutality, monsters, insanity, regular beatings, betrayals, mistrust, chaos and perpetual suffering, and the only thing you can smell is a choking stench of human excrement and sulpher.

You might not realise your were in hell, but you would be in perpetual distress. Look at the youtube videos about some people's experiences of hell.

Many people, even so-called Christians have a lot of different beliefs about hell. But as far as I know there is only one religion that teaches hell and that religion is centered upon one God, so why would that one God have many different types of hell?

If you believe that the Bible is the only real divine Word of God, then we need to look in it for answers.

Jesus told the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Most people believe that this like many other things that Jesus talked about was simply a parable, but Jesus said, "There WAS a certain rich man."

The rich man died and it said "And in hell he lift up his eyes, BEING IN TORMENTS."

"And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame."

Hell is not a place of nothingness, but as my Pastor says, it's an insane asylum of eternity. It will be a place where people will be separated from God for eternity and everyone will remember every chance they ever had to be saved.

    Your understanding is wrong.

You WILL know that you are in Hell. Hell is clearly described as a place of "eternal torture and pain". ALSO, God has promised that BEFORE judgment, ALL of the dead will be resurrected into NEW physical bodies. Those that chose to not believe in God will spend eternity WITH THEIR PHYSICAL BODY in Hell.

And God will NOT be there with you. Not only will you suffer physically, but you will suffer mentally, too. As it stands right now, because you are alive there is STILL HOPE that you will change you way of thinking and that even YOU will spend your eternity, in a new and perfect body, in the presence of God. HOPE is man's greatest emotion.

But in Hell, where God isn't, there is NO HOPE of ever being freed from this torture. So you will suffer both physically AND MENTALLY -- being constantly tortured physically, and without ANY hope of it ending. You will be driven to suicide by this lack of hope, but you will be unabler to carry it out since you do NOT control your opwn bodily actions.

Your misunderstanding of God and how He works are leading you into eternal damnation -- not because God wants to put you there, or becasuse He somehow "hates" you, but because YOU choose to go there due to your stubborn and improper understandings.

believe rightly and spend time with God. Continue to believe wrongly and spend time in Hell.

Well I applaud you for being aware that hell is nothing but non-existence. It's the grave. Nothing more. Nothing less.

But it's not hopeless since we have Jesus' promise at John 5:28,29 that there will be a resurrection of the dead after which all will be given an opportunity to live forever. Not a pipe dream. It's a bible promise.

King Solomon informs us of the true condition of the ded at Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10. Notice that it clearly says we don't love, we don't do business, we are aware of nothing at all.

Pretty sure Jesus said there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth...well actually that's exactly what He said. Also absolutely sure about there being a lake of fire thingamajig...so yea, not so sure about "modern day perceptions" being biblical. And since the idea of hell came from the bible, first written down in the book of job thousands of years ago...i'm pretty sure the bible is the authority on all that is hell.

i said pretty sure a lot there.

Like most people, you don't know what the Bible hell is. Let me explain. The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth. Other Bibles simply transliterate the original-language words that are sometimes rendered “hell”; that is, they express them with the letters of our alphabet but leave the words untranslated. What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl′ and its Greek equivalent hai′des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind; also the Greek ge′en·na, which is used as a symbol of eternal destruction. However, both in Christendom and in many non-Christian religions it is taught that hell is a place inhabited by demons and where the wicked, after death, are punished (and some believe that this is with torment).

What is the condition of those in Biblical hell? Eccl. 9:5 says: "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all." So, if a person is not aware of anything at death, how can he be suffering? In harmony with Eccl. 9:5, Jesus likened death to sleep. Concerning his friend Lazarus, Jesus told his followers at John 11:11: "Laz′a·rus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.”

Are you aware that Jesus went to hell when he died? Acts 2:31 (KJB) says: "He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption."

So, hell is nothing more than the grave of dead humans.

Although there is no suffering in hell, it still robs a person from enjoying the benefits of life. Can a dead person feel love? No. Can he enjoy a nice meal or the company of friends? No. Can he admire a beautiful sunset or the smell of flowers? No. He experiences nothing. For that reason, the Bible calls death an enemy.

Focus on the fact that you would be SEPARATED FROM GOD FOREVER. Whatever else you understand about hell and heaven, this is the central issue. Don't be deceived into thinking that this will not matter. Trust Jesus and don't take that chance. Not to mention that the Christian life is the greatest life that can be had on this earth.

Hell is terrible. It's not a state of nothingness.

Imagine being really uncomfortable before public speaking. I would consider it to be that feeling all the time.

Then times that by about 2 and a head ache.

    Hell sucks.
