Should U.S. Soldiers "hunt people for Jesus"?

A U.S. church raised money to send Bibles, printed in the Pashtu and Dari languages, to American soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, a report on Al Jazeera documented Sunday night.

It is against military rules to proselytize -- a regulation one of the soldiers filmed by the network readily acknowledged. "You cannot proselytize, but you can give gifts," says the soldier. It is a crime in Afghanistan to attempt to convert anyone from Islam to any other religion. "I also want to praise God because my church collected some money to get Bibles for Afghanistan. They came and sent the money out." The footage is said to be roughly a year old.

The Al Jazeera report also shows a military preacher urging army parishioners to "hunt people for Jesus."

Absolutely not. That is not what they are being paid to do. If they want to proselytize, then they should have become ministers or missionaries.

A question to the Christians who think this is acceptable: Would it be acceptable if a group of Muslim soldiers were out preaching the Koran? Or Satanist soldiers handing out the Satanic Bible?

This type of activity by U.S. soldiers only fuels the hatred of Islamic extremists. It puts our country in more danger. Stupid idiots.

The soldiers should not be agents of the church.

That being said, the law against religious expression in Afghanistan is part of why this backwater cesspool is so messed up, so I could give a rip about such a law on any moral grounds.

Peaceful in some contexts is like the Pax in Pax Romana: Be peaceful or expect to get a can of whoop as s opened on you. This explains the existence of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. When I was in the Navy we hated serving with Fundamentalists, not because of their proseliting (although that didn't help) but because they were uniformly poor at their jobs.

AHH, the barbaric religion rears its ugly head.

well, sadly, though most denominations will agree with you, violence is perfectlbly acceptable.

never forget, the religion they follow has the "nicest" person to ever live

walk into a temple and whip people with a 9 tails made of rope.

Contrary to popular opinion in the US South, Jesus never once fired an assault rifle.

  • They can stick it up their a ss. They are forgetting that they are putting in jeopardy people not from the US who don't share their same conviction for zealotous right wing Christianity, I would turn them over to be tried locally. This stinks of the tactless hand of dumb people

    Hmmm.....

I dunno, I speak to others about Jesus only if they want to hear it. I feel that if they want to hear what you have to say that is fine but it is not okay to try to force your beliefs on others. I say this because my brother is Muslim or Islamic or whatever it is and he tries to drive the error of my ways into my head every chance he gets. I can understand the hostility of those who feel that others are trying to make them believe something they have no desire to believe.

Not if it violates the law

they can only do that on their own time not when they are working as a US soldier.

There is no evidence the Bibles were ever distributed.
