could you die from having a panic attack?

and if so how could you prevent them from coming on?

    Honey,

    No, you can not die from a panic attack. I have lived with them for over 11 years and so far, am doing just fine. That actually is one of the panic attack symptoms...thinking you are going to die. Once you realize you will not die, you are starting to fight your battle to get over panic attacks once and for all. Please read my attached link, this will show you some ways to avoid having a panic attack. HOpefully some of these tips will help you out. They are what I use whenever I feel one coming on.

    Are you sure that there was not a trigger? I started having panic attacks after I did almost die at the end of a pregnancy. My heart goes out to you because panic attacks are terrible and they do make you feel like you dieing. Also, people tend to be insensitive if they have never suffered a panic attack. Anyway, I'm not a physician so I can't say if there are any disorders or conditions that can cause anxiety and panic attacks. I would just keep working with your doctor. I'm sure that they will check for everything that could be related. Zoloft and Ativan are excellent medications. I've heard that Lexapro is also fantastic in dealing with panic attacks. Good Luck!

    Theoretically, yes. I don't think there have been many cases of this though. A person with anxiety likely will take their meds (benzodiazepines) to prevent panic attacks.
