If the cable connecting the switch to the router is faulty, what can i do to resume connectivity?

Just replace the cable with another and test to make sure it is actually the cable,if replacing the cable resets connectivity then it was the cable.

I would think if you replace the cable - all you would need to do is power off both devices, power them on again, and everything would come up ok and data would flow again...
