How can a "Bible based" religion deny modern revelation and the need for Apostles and Prophets?

I am trying to figure out how it's possible to claim to be Bible based and deny revelation when the Bible is clear on the need for it. The Bible doesnt ever state God has nothing else to say. In fact, the scriptures speak of God revealing Himself in the last days when He gathers Israel again all the time.

How can you be Bible based and deny any of the gifts of the Spirit? It just doesnt make sense to me. Yet there are so many people who state they follow Christ who deny the gifts of God.

Update:

I think the answers here have better articulated why it's absurd to deny revelation and claim to be Bible based than I have.

Were we to accept these twisted interpretations of the scriptures, we would be obligated to eliminate the entire New Testament because it was revealed after Christ came.

How can you deny it when the Bible itself is clear on the importance of revelation? After Christ repeatedly rebuked the Pharisees for ignoring what the Lord says now, for what has been said in the past? How can you deny the gifts of God and claim to be Biblical when the Lord says He will speak? Why should we pretend otherwise?

You named it when you said religion, religion twists the scripture to fit their beliefs and don't allow the scripture to change them

A Bible based religion does not deny that a person can receive a revelation of truth from God. Nor does it deny that God can gift people whom He chooses with a prophetic ministry and that He can "send" people to spread the gospel message which is what the basic definition of an Apostle - one who is sent as an ambassador - means.

What Bible based religions can deny is that any "revelation" that a person claims to have received that runs counter to what God has already said in His Word, does not come from God but either from the person's own imagination or from a deceiving spirit.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,

What is more, is that the Canon of Scripture that God gave to all humanity is closed. The Book of Revelation tells us what will happen before and after the Lord returns.

While God may give someone a revelation of truth for a particular situation, His Word to all people for all times is complete.

If a so called "prophet" claims that the eternal Son of God, the Lord Jesus, is an arch-angel or a "spirit brother" of Satan, then you know that this is a false prophecy sent by the spirit of the substitute or "anti-Christ".

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made...14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

  • The word of God is complete. there is no need for prophecy. The nation Israel had the prophetic program. That is being held in abeyance, until the time of the fullness of the Gentiles, at the end of the age of grace.

I would recommend that you read "The PLOT" by Pastor Bob Enyart. He is an absolutely brilliant teacher of God's word, rightly divided. When you read it, all that is unclear to you will be made clear.

    The Bible ABSOLUTELY CONTRADICTS YOU.

    Galatians 1

    8

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed! 7

    9

As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you received, let that one be accursed!

You beg the question of WHAT are the gifts. Sure there are gifts. But just like children with friendly strangers -- which one is truly friendly and which just wants to murder you.

    there is no new prophecy

God has spoken through His Son

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

    Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
