Replying to a scammer to waste their time or (in your case) to gain something for the living room wall (!) is called 'Scambaiting'

It can be rewarding but is really not a good idea to do this using your home address.

Your scammer is not in Ireland, but almost certainly in Nigeria or West Africa, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't got contacts near to where you live.

(In fact there's a good chance that the cheque may arrive from Canada)

Do you really want to run the risk of a 3AM visit with a gas can and matches?

And remember these people are criminals and there is a lot of money at stake for a scammer - they do NOT like being messed around.

Unless you have a totally anonymous address to collect the cheque i.e. a workplace (and use a funny fake name like Orsson Cart or Moe Heekan and claim he's your accountant or something) you would be better advised to just ignore him.
