What do you think of this food?

I clicked on the chicken formula hoping for a full ingredient list and got this:

Chicken (26%)

Rice (26%)

Barley

Poultry fat

Sugar beet pulp

Fish meal

Brewers yeast

Yucca extract

Minerals

Vitamins

Omega 3

From that list you can see that it is pretty high in grains. Its good that the chicken came first and is a named protien. However it would have been preferd if there was more protein sources or if it was chicken meal. Meal is better because since ingredients are listed by their pre-processing weight you get FAR more protein with chicken meal beacuse it has all the water already removed. Chicken, means that the wieght is a fair amount of water and the actual amount of chicken in the food would then list it bellow the amount of rice in it.

Rice is a low allergen grain as is barley, and easier on stomachs than corn. Oats would be a more prefferable grain, if grain is to be included. And the overall amount is very high

Sugar Beet Pulp is a controvercial filler, manufacturers add it because it is natural and slows down rancididty in food and adds fibre, some believe it stresses kidney and liver function

Poultry fat is not that great. It should say chicken fat, poultry means anything that can fly.

Brewers yeast can be beneficial and helps ward off fleas, but it is a common allergen.

So better than store brands since it lacks chemicals and coloring, not as good a super premium, or grain free foods.

I think it might make someone *feel* like they were being good to their dog by purchasing an expensive product like the one advertised on the site at the link you provided. Their are many inexpensive brands of dog food that are highly beneficial to a dog's health. You would have to have more money than sense to buy this dog food.

Website does not list actual ingredients - would like to SEE them before saying anything. Wonder why they don't just list the ingredients as they are on the bag like many other dog food sites do...?

Add - 26% chicken? Sounds like minimal meat... mostly grains in that food?

Go to www.pekeatzurescue.com/food.htm and read about these dog foods also. I had to switch my boys to a natural, raw diet as they all were scratching themselves raw. Allergies!! The raw diet has eliminated many problems usually associated with different breeds. When changing your dogs diet, do it gradually so his system gets used to it. You will find that by feeding your pet a raw diet, he will eat less over time. Great way to raise your dog too.

KHLOE, please do not recommend Science Diet, it's one of the worse dog foods on the market. Vets get a kick-back for selling that garbage.

This Whites Premium is skirting around the ingredients listing.

I think it's a good food, its all natural and its not filled with all of those cheap fillers that make dog sick.

I would like to see a list of the actual ingredients instead of them skating around it.

yes its fine i use science diet for my champion dog show dog and that is like it only science diet is the best food but thats good to try science diet
