How do you clean a wire basket coffee filter?

My wife and I love our coffee and we have a one cup coffee brewer made by the Keurig Company. You can use prepared cups that the machine punches a hole in the top and bottom of or you can use a holder that you put a wire filter basket in with your ground coffee.

PROBLEM: The basket gets clogged over time with I guess the oil in coffee so that the hot water does not flow easily and you get a backing up effect which the machine doesn't like. I have tried washing the basket in the dishwasher which seems to help a little but does not cut the oil. I have tried soaking in vinegar which surprisingly did not help. HELP!!!

I had the same issue... this is what worked for me.

There is a product called Brew Rite Cleaner. It is in a white bottle (like a large Tylenol bottle) with a red top. It cleans all the deposits from the filter AND you can run it through your coffee maker, and it will clean it. It doesn't leave a funny taste, either.

I found it at Walmart in the same place coffee filters are sold which is usually near the coffee makers & small appliances. Relatively inexpensive.

I have a wire basket for my coffee pot too.I tried the dish washer thing too and it didn't work that well.Once a week I take the basket, run it under hot water and gently scrub the basket with an old tooth brush. It helps loosen up the oils that are left behind from the coffee and my basket is as good as new.

Go to your local store with cleaning products. Most of them have some kind of coffee pot cleaner. This is what I use. It's a powder that dissolves in water and removes tough deposits of stuff from my coffee maker.

I use a little wire brush. It gets the stuff out from the mesh holes.

Try using soap, warm water, and a little elbow grease.
