Milk.. Whole, Low Fat, 1 %, Skim...?
Ok... Heres a debate going on in my household. Without making a trip to the Super Market, Id like to know your thoughts to this:
What are the differences between 2%, 1%, Skim and Non-Fat Milk?
Is 2% Low Fat and Skim Milk is Non-Fat?
My thought was this, Whole Milk is just that. But 2% is also called Low Fat, and Skim Milk is also called Non Fat Milk....
My wife thinks there are: Whole Milk, 2%, Low Fat, 1%, Skim, non Fat.
I think that its: Whole Milk, Low Fat, Non Fat (or read, Vitamin D, 2%, Skim)
Let me here what you Milk drinkers think of this!!

"Whole" mild is usually 3.5% mild fat. Actual whole milk is not really sold in supermarkets. You would need to go to a dairy, and hope for the best!
2% is just that - 2% of the milk is milk fat, or cream. 1% is 1% cream, and skim less, although I forget how much exactly.
Non-fat would be pretty much white water I should think. (Blah!)
Vitamin D is added to the milk. Naturally, it does not contain much, so it was added for general health, much like Vitamin C is added to apple juice (although Vitamin C also makes apple juice clear. Naturally, it is cloudy).
I have seen Jersey milk that was pretty much 1/3 cream. Amazing stuff, although drinking it every day would be pretty high on the old calorie meter. But, for commercial milk, i.e., that sold in stores, the amount of fat is set, and the rest is skimmed off.
Summary:
Cow's milk from the cow: cream (fat) varies by the variety, diet, etc., but could be a third, although usually it is much less.
Whole milk - 3.5% cream.
2% - 2% cream
1% - 1% cream
Skim - less than 1% cream (cannot remember the exact amount.
non-fat - not sure. I have never seen it in a shop.
I say cream, but really it is milk-fat.

My thoughts are that anything less the whole milk is a waste of money as it is modified.
Skim milk is basically like drinking water, and a waste of time..
you asked for my thoughts and that is them.

milk
low fat 2%
non fat.
if you ask me the reduced fat looses too much of what is good for you. a normal amount of fat intake on a daily basis is healthy.
i drink the whole stuff, where as my wife drinks silk (yuck) but she is lactose intolerant
