Can you travel on an airplane with a video camera?
Is a video camera something you have to check in your baggage or can you travel with it as a carry on? Everytime I put my laptop in my checked luggage it gets opened and searched. Last time it happened they broke my shampoo bottle and ruined most of my clothes. So now I take the laptop as a carry on. I was wondering if i could prevent my baggage from being searched by taking the camcorder on the plane with me but I'm not sure if your allowed to do that.

Never, never, never ever put an expensive piece of equipment with your checked baggage. That includes laptops, video cameras, digital cameras, iPods, PDAs, and film cameras. Baggage handlers treat your bags like volleyballs, and sometimes they'll rifle through your stuff and steal any valuable. Customs can search your bags. Your checked bags can get searched by TSA and they aren't delicate.
Yes, you can carry a video camera on the plane. The airline will ask you to turn it off during takeoff ("all electronic equipment including cell phones").

Yes you can take it and better you get a little case and take it with your laptop. i always carry mine '' remember if you take thing like shampoo or cream you better put them in a plastic bag then in a seal plastic bag the ones used for frozen foods because changes in preassure and temperatures during the flight make them spill some of the ingridients. i pack all my stuff and no problem. if your luggage are of weak material depending were you are traveling they will brake it and still anything it happen to me wen i travel to the Bahamas they stole my camera, cd player, glasses my luggage arrive open they brake the lock they told me wen they take the lugagge from the plane especially on night flights to the main terminal belt they take their time to steal goods. anyway good luck''

Yes, you can carry it on, though with a computer, that's perhaps a lot to carry so maybe use a wheel aboard to save your back.
Always put your liquids in ziploc bags. Makes it harder for them to leak.
They'll still search (and wreck) your luggage some of the time.

You are allowed to take it on, but you will likely have your baggage searched at the security checkpoint.
