2001 grand prix gtp transmission just ment out on me it will go in 2,1and reverse is do i need a new transmission

First I would check the fluid level and condition. Low trans fluid wil cause shifting issues. If it is ok, the I would take it to a dealer or trans shop and have it looked at. It could just be a faulty shift solenoid. If it just went out with no warning, then it my just be an electrical problem.
