The Prophetic Hadith: "The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) cursed males imitating females and females imitating males" [Reported by Imam Bukhari].

Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) when he took silk by his right hand and gold by left and said: "These two (items) are Haram for males of my Ummah and Halal for its females". Ahmad, Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah and al-Nasaai with a good chain of narrators.

Gold is permitted for women because of their delicate and gentle nature, and their need for adornment. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "(Do they then like for Allaah) a creature who is brought up in adornments (wearing gold and silk ornaments, i.e., women), and in dispute cannot make herself clear?" [al-Zukhruf 43:18]

As for men, it is a sign of instability and an unmasculine nature to adorn oneself with gold. Islaam wants the differences between the sexes to be marked clearly, and their distinct characteristics to stand out, because when they resemble one another, much corruption results therefrom. The prohibition of gold for men includes pure gold, gold alloys, cut pieces, joined pieces, gold inlay, etc. As for gold-plating and gilding, some scholars are of the opinion that such articles are forbidden for men if it is possible to extract gold from them (by peeling or shaving off, for example); if no gold can be extracted from it, then such items are permitted. Some scholars say that it is not permitted to wear an item which is wholly or mostly gold-plated, but if only a little part of it is gold-plated (like the hands of a watch, or the numerals, or the tiny points denoting numbers), then it is permitted to wear it. They say that the issue is its appearance, not its value: if the gold-plating is very obvious and covers everything, it is not permitted, because many people will not make the distinction between gold-plate and real gold, and some may follow this person’s example and begin to wear pure gold.

It is permissible for men to wear white gold and there is no sin in that, because there is nothing in sharee’ah to suggest that it is forbidden for men. The fact that people call it white gold does not make it haraam, because it is just a name that is given to it, but it is not really gold. Similarly, cotton is also called “white gold” and oil is called “black gold”, because it is precious, but that does not make it haraam either. And it is permissible for men to wear precious stones such as diamonds, rubies etc.

    Allah knows best.

Because Gold is generally more feminine and man is not supposed to be like a woman. there's a Hadith that advises men against the wearing of gold and silk and many more things which symbolize the separate identity of men n women. Natassia is funny<< the one who answered to this question.

Its fairly obvious really. Mohammad didn't like gold himself so therefore like everything else he didn't personally like he made a ruling that nobody else was to use it. He appears to have been a man with a lot of issues.

Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 7.731 Narrated byAli bin Abi Talib

The Prophet gave me a silk suit. I went out wearing it, but seeing the signs of anger on his face, I tore it and distributed it among my wives.

@Aisha if Islam was so difficult & hadith were so confusing why the hell do we still follow Islam?

    Remember,

    1. Sahih Bukhari.

    2. Tirmidhi.

    3. Muslim

    4. Abu Dawood.

    5. Ibn Maja

    are all books of hadith.

Their chains of relations differ not the whole hadith.

& regarding weak hadith, the hadith that the 27th night where people usually stay awake is a weak one.

It is said that the last 10 days & odd nights are of Layal atul Qadr.

Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 4224 Narrated byAbuHurayrah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If anyone wants to put a ring of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold ring on him: if anyone wants to put a necklace of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold necklace on him, and if anyone wants to put a bracelet of fire on one he loves let him put a gold bracelet on him. Keep to silver and amuse yourselves with it.

gold is not allowed simply because its generally more feminine - so a man is not supposed to be like a woman and vice versa. there's a Hadith that advises men against the wearing of gold and silk.

Because there is something in its make up that is not healthy for men, gold is for women and because Allah says so...

Because Islam wants to honor women and there should be some differences between men and women.e.g. what they wear :)

  • 1 decade ago

now it is proved that gold harms men health but is good for women health.
