is greed the new religion?

Ever since the election of Ronald Reagan back in 1980, American business has been pretty much let loose to plunder the landscape. 12 years of Republican control of Congress, during which time regulations on banks were trashed, has brought us to the brink of economic ruin while benefitting a small number of Republican supporters.

Money has always been the only god in America. When you look at how rich the evangelical churches are, this should come as no surprise.

Greed is so 1980s.

As someone else said, the televangelists have a funky sideline in greed. Luckily I live in a country where we do not have those, although on a Sunday morning, Nat.Geo. is replaced by infomercials and US televangelists...gives me quite a shock when I roll over onto the remote at 6am and get some shouty american waking me up by yelling about burning, and mispronouncing hallelujah.

Hardly.

I think, rather, that greed is the original sin.

If we could rid ourselves of our greed and our selfishness, we wouldn't have to worry so much about the economy...

And fraud on Wall Street wouldn't be a problem.

If only we could get it through our heads...there's enough to go around, we needn't hoard more than we need.

If only we could truly learn to treat each other the way we would like to be treated.

Ahh, but one day, your soul will be required from you...you will die.

And then, who will enjoy what you have managed to hoard?

YES. GREED has been an age-old religion, but today, we have come to the point where people depend on material things and money too much that they are willing to risk relationships, personal respect and integrity for the sake of an easy life of pleasure.

it is evident that evangelicalism and fundamentalism has ushered in a new form of the greed that the vatican used to have. The difference is that the ministers of these prosperity churches are famous and on television.

I think that televangelism is rediculous and those caught in giving to these churches are gambling with not only thier money but also thier souls. Watch any preacher on TV...the message is always the same.

"planting financial seeds, being cowardly for not giving them money and getting a healing only when you give them money."

Copeland,Hagee,Hinn,Jakes,Dollar all of these and more are heretics and money grubbing frauds to beware of.

Are you somehow laboring under the impression that greed is something new? Check out the parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21). Truly, there IS nothing new under the sun.

Just try reading a small sample of Christian postings on here!!!

Intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted!! Eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more. Christians are the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more - but far worse whilst they demand freedom of religion they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them!!!

So whilst they do appear to have got rid of the idea of a loving god it is surely not greed that has replaced him but hatred!!

There have always been greedy people so it is not new.

Greed and mind control is the basis of all religions throughout history..

Greed is the oldest religion...

Hasn't it always been about the money?

Every time I tune in to religious channels on tv the underlying themes are:

1--the others are lost/ wrong

2--god wants you to be rich if you support us
