My comp has been infected by a virus or a malware. Initially the anti-virus was not updating, and when i tried updating Windows the browser redirected to google.com. Now the internet has been disabled, am not able to open any websites. Any recommendations?

Try this Malware link on the forum if you have malware problems. http://suggestions.yahoo.com/detail/?prop=answers&... gives links to free programmes and help. You can also ask for help there from the regulars.

this could be your modem. Try turning it off for a few minutes, then turn back on.. You might can get into your help and test it. Your provider might give you one like mine did.
This does sound like viruses and trojans. You do not have protection or a firewall. You say you can go to google. Very good, I hope. When I had viruses things were blocked part of the time., I could go to google sometimes and when I got in there I used the google pack. In google. com , click and in that website click services and tools>looking for pack, down on bottom Get to google pack, free. Or get to google pack some way. Spydoctor blocked their blocks and removed over 200 infections plus XPantivirus2008 . Mcafee was there at the time. Norton is there now. NO Firewall. If you can install Spydoctor and can not get in, Spydoctor will start scanning when you turn your computer on. It blocked their block in add and remove programs so I could remove their entry and their icons. McAfee did the rest. Zonealarm is free. Or some of the others can tell you a good one. You will need to know who to allow or deny into your computer with this one. Spybot is good for a blacklist. You might want to buy you a full coverage security.
Source(s): A programmer put Avg, zonealarm and spybot in my computer. The free ones. Avg does not want any help. The similus in spybot is not on. I think he put that in to blacklist things. Spydoctor's scanning canot be scheduled. Norton's can. - 1 decade ago
From a computer that is able to access the internet (you may have to go to a friend's house or go to your local library with a flash drive), Go to download.com and download AVG Anti-virus program to a flash drive. Also download Spybot Search and Destroy. Install these two programs on your system and download all the updates to both of these. Once you do that, scan that bad boy for viruses and adware. Once the scan is done, go to Internet Explorer and click on Tools, Internet Options and Underneath Browsing History, click on delete. This will get rid of any temporary internet files that are cached to your system. Depending on which viruses or which browser redirector you have, you may have to take several other steps but this should get you started in the right direction.

You asking this question means that you have another computer.
So I suggest you to download or buy a copy of anti-virus software like Kaspersky Internet Sercurity. You can also download a free/trial version.
