Why is it that when family members borrow money they feel that they don't have to pay it back?

I don't know....I lent my brother $500 15 years ago and he has never mentioned it since. Funny, when he needed it, he said he would pay it back. Guess he just felt that he was entitled to it because I was more blessed in life that he was. Of course I work and he doesn't isn't that bad luck.

Lesson learned: Don't make the same mistake again. We only enable them.

Friends sometimes do the same thing also. This one woman that I use to be friends with, has money but when it is time to pay for the stuff that she wants in the grocery store,she will say Oh no I have no money, so I feel bad and let her borrow the money and she never wanted to pay me back. I know that she had money on her but I felt bad when had didn't want to pay for the stuff that she picked out. She also had a checking account and a few credit cards.

Because they are taking the advantage that the family members would not push them to return the money, especially those old family members such as grandpa and grandmom who always do not expect to get the money back,

Because they are family,not saying it is a good excuse,but that is what they think.Some pay it back,but only after being asked a zillion times

well, because they think you are family and that's what family members do--helping each other without asking for it back

Because their family and they think their entitled to it.

they probably think you wouldn't mind because you guys are related and such.
