Should people who smoke at the gas station have to serve a mandatory 1 year in jail?

I'd rather they smoke at the gas station than cluck on their cellphone or text while driving.

A child (that's what a 15 year old IS) cannot legally give consent. By the time a teen is 16, much less 17, they should know the difference between right and wrong. A 17 year old, who expects to be treated as an adult in all matters, must be prepared to take on the responsibilities of an adult. It is the responsibility of every adult to rebuke the sexual advances of any minor or to pay the price. I do agree, however, that 10 years does seem a bit much, given the fact that the relationship was ongoing and if there was no indication that he was stalking her and if it was his first offense (sexual or otherwise). As to the sex offender registry, I believe that if a registered person maintains a clean criminal record and does not break the rules of his/her probation or parole or the rules and regulations of the registry for 10 years after the completion of probation or parole they should be removed from the registry.

What's this question have to do with politics? No people who smoke at a gas station shouldn't have to serve a mandatory 1 year in jail for smoking. They should however get fined for being stupid but that will never happen. Are they smoking at the station or near the gas pump is another question...how close to the pump are they?

Oh, good grief.. don't you have enough problems in your own life?
If everything you think deserves a jail sentence actually carried one - there's be such a backlog in the court system that murderers would go free because they couldn't be guaranteed their right to a speedy trial.
Oh, that's right... that's another "right" that would fall to the wayside under this new "jurisprudence".
Never mind. I'll crawl back under my rock now.
Edit: For A57 - you forgot - Regular, or Super? Gas, or Diesel?

Funny i just saw a scientific thing on this precise subject. The conclusion showed that a cigarette or cell phone could not light the fums of gas. Even better if a cigarette goes into gasoline, the cigarette gets wet and nothing... They showed that there has been no case of flame at any gas station with cigarette or cell phone.
It's all Bull**** !

I'm against mandatory sentences for anything. The judges should have discretion to decide a sentence, based on motive, intent, etc. That's what we pay them to do. If we don't like their sentencing decisions, we can throw them out and get new judges.

No, those who don't smoke should be given 20 years at hard labor in front of a firing squad with their britches down around their ankles.

Why don't you ask the people who exploded when they dropped a cigarrette near a gas station. Oh yeah, you can't. Of course it should be jail time.
