Been calling myself an atheist, but...?

I am dealing with some distressing events in my life, and since I really lost it and felt like I was flipping out, I started asking God for help and it seems to have eased my emotional pain and have had some good things happen as well. Could be coincidence and positive thinking, but I feel like I want to keep praying for guidance. Why???

Do we as humans turn to anything we can for hope when we're feeling lost? The tragedy that has struck my life was very unexpected and sudden. Is it a natural defense mechanism of the mind? Three weeks ago I would have never imagined writing this. I mean...Hell! I know how to use spell checker and everything! Kinda freaky here. And I wouldn't wish my problems on anyone. Peace.

Update:

right opinion....

I don't get out much and really don't have any social network. The problem involves a situation where I've been suddenly seperated from immediate family I live with and many unanswered questions about a resolution.

The mean responses from the xtians are typical though aren't they. If there is a god, I doubt he would live in the mean persons heart. Think about it, xtians.

Update 2:

Thanks christianman. I appreciate the sentiment.

Update 3:

Sorry about the spellchecker jab. Just trying to keep some sense of humor through my crisis.

From my own personal expierience I realized that Jesus walks in when the rest of the world walks out. Please my friend, turn to God for help he is always there even if you don't think so, he loves you all the same and he WILL help you!

    God Bless you always!

The reason you turn to God when things got hard is because he designed you to do that. He created a hole in you that only he can fill. And sometimes it gets filled with other things like other relationships, or addictions, or whatever, and when those things go, you're still left with the hole. God is the only one who can ever fill it. he built you, he made you to have a need for him. Keep turning to him, ask for the holy spirit to show you truth about him. I hope you're problems get better.

Sorry about your problems. Hopefully they'll work out soon, although I don't think an imaginary friend will help so much as a real friend. I think it always helps to feel like you're not alone in something, is there someone you can trust and confide in? Good luck.

high quality via me. As Sam Harris properly noted, "Atheist" is a be conscious that shouldn't even could exist -- no one has to become attentive to themselves as an "alchemy skeptic" or a "leprechaun denier"...

Like they say, there are no atheists in foxholes.

It's not unnatural to turn to someone else for help when you've undergoing stress you don't think you can handle yourself.

    look up the placebo effect.

  • Those distressing events were sent by God. He was trying to tell you to quit being a snot nosed brat and get back to church and studying his word.
