Visit the library and/or book store when you can, and borrow or purchase books to read. The library probably also has music CDs and videos that you can borrow..
Go for walks around your neighborhood. The world is a new and exciting place for him! Let him meet neighbors, observe the wildlife he sees, check out different leaves. Explain to him what some of the people he might see do-police officers, mail man, ice cream truck driver, garbage truck driver, fire fighters, etc.
Since the weather is getting warm, look for some fun outdoor toys. Many are very inexpensive-in fact, you can get them at your local Dollar Tree. Some ideas would be bubbles, side walk chalk, a water sprinkler, a magnifying glass, balls, butterfly net, etc.
There are websites that you can utilize with your son. NickJr.com, Disney.com, PBSKids.org, Sprout (not sure of the rest of the URL), BabyFirstTV.com, etc. Most of the games are not only fun, but educational.
For indoor activities, Google the reciple for edible playdough that you can make yourself. Refrigerator magnets are also great. Cookie cutters can be used to make shapes out of that playdough, or to make shapes out of sandwhiches, cookies, etc. Do not forget the basics, such as paper and/or coloring books, crayons and/or markers, glue, scissors (with help), stickers, etc.
Look for games you can play with him, such as memory, chutes and ladders, candyland, go fish.
Look for software for the computer-some libraries might have copies you can borrow. I really like Jumpstart, and they have games for his age.
Do fun things, that are out of the box. On a rainy day, have a picnic inside on the floor. Make interesting foods, such as ants on a log, pigs in a blanket, etc.
There are some magazines geared towards little ones. It will be educational, plus they all love getting their own mail! We like National Geographic Kids (look for the little version), Your Big Backyard, Highlights (there is a version for younger children), etc. Pack O Fun has a lot of really neat craft ideas, usually geared towards the season or holidays. Zoobooks is also good. Family Time is usually filled with a lot of ideas. Parents sometimes has some good ideas in it as well.
Is there a local park you can visit? Take him there often. He will make new friends, as will you. See if there is a group of moms in your area that gets together for playdates-when my older children were younger, we had were involved with one that had an online community at http://groups.yahoo.com/ so you might want to try there. If you can not find one, start one!
Puzzles are great for him, so see about getting some of those or make your own-you can print pictures of him, his favorite animal, etc. and then cut them up and have him put it back together.
If possible, get out. Visit the local children's museum, petting zoo, etc.
There is no limit to the possibilities. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best!

i've answered a question like this before... maybe you can find it.
2.5 year olds don't need anything fancy... they just need new and exciting. The best way to accomplish this is to turn everyday activities into "challenges" or "adventures."
We never walk out and get the mail. We have to sneak out the door - be stealth by hiding on the way to the mailbox so no cars see us, then we have to take turns going first or second from one hiding place to the other, then we quick grab the mail and pretend that their hot. Gotta toss it and catch it... don't drop it though... quick hide - a car.
You get the point... we do the same fun things with folding laundry and making dinner. Teach your son to sort the socks - this is a good educational challenge for a 2.5 year old... and it keeps him busy. Toss some water droplets on a hot skillet and pretend its a volanoe. You don't need new toys - and you don't need crafty ideas all the time... just think like a 2.5 year old... haha.
Don't get me wrong - i can't play master creator all day - it gets exhausting... but throw one or two of those events in your day and i'm sure he'll be laughing!

Make playdough, play with it and do crafts with it. http://www.creativekidsathome.com/activities/activ... There is also edible playdough that you can make.
Fingerpaint, color and draw.
Go on a nature walk and pick up leaves, acorns and pine cones and other things from nature. Help him decorate them with glitter and other art supplies. He can also glue them to paper or you can put them up on shelves.
Get cardboad boxes of all sizes. Small ones for little boxes to keep his crafts or small toys in, medium ones to make houses for dolls or action figures and to make toy cars and big ones to make cars, spaceships and houses that he can actually fit in. Let him help you decorate it and then when it is finished he can go inside and play. Kids love playing in boxes and turning them in to fun things makes it even more fun. You can use your imagination or google it and find a website for instructions. http://www.ehow.com/how_2124372_make-car-from-card...
