What are the baseball numbers?
Like when they have a double play they say "3-6-3" double play?
or when someone gets an error they say "that'll be an E-7"
can you tell me what the numbers are? I'm guessing they are positions, so can you tell me whats what?
thanks

Yes, the other two fellows above are correct. The positions are assigned numbers for score keeping purposes. This way someone can tell exactly what happened during a game by simply looking at a scorecard.

1 - Pitcher
2 - Catcher
3 - First Baseman
4 - Second Baseman
5 - Third Baseman
6 - Short Stop
7 - Left Fielder
8 - Center Fielder
9 - Right Fielder
So a "3-6-3" play is when the ball goes from the First Baseman to the Short Stop and back to the First Baseman.
Also, the numbers relate to the player, not necessarily the location.... So if the pitcher covered 1B (as often hapens on that type of double play) it would be a "3-6-1"

Each position has a numerical reference:
Pitcher - 1
Catcher - 2
1st Baseman - 3
2nd Baseman - 4
3rd Baseman - 5
Shortstop - 6
Left Fielder - 7
Center Fielder - 8
Right Fielder - 9
so your 3-6-3 reference would be a double play - First baseman to shortstop and back to the first baseman.
the E-7 reference would be an error on the left fielder
