How come I go to a Marlins or Dolphins game and there are usually more fans for the OTHER team?
Is it because South Florida is such a melting pot of transients from around the country?

I have to agree with most of the others, but you did touch on a very important fact...South Florida being a Latin Melting Pot, and the big Latin game is soccer.
I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and have been a Dolphin fan from the start, even when they were really bad under the first coach, George Wilson...but thank God Shula came along a few years later. And, up until then, the only football in Florida was college (and you really can't complain about college football in Florida). And then, it was the only pro sport for a long time.
But, let's face it, it's hard to sit in the stands when it's 100 degrees outside...in the sun, and watch a football game, I've never understood why they didn't go ahead and build a dome stadium. Unfortunately, I think too many fans take the approach of "...well, we can see the Dolphins any time", so there is no sense of urgency, but the fans of other teams, never miss the chance to see them when available. I now live in Atlanta, and I never miss a game when the Dolphins are in town.
In fact, I was able to see Marino's last game against the Falcons, and saw him run, that's right he ran, for a touchdown. Even though we got our butts beat that day, I was really excited seeing history being made!
When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, the only baseball we had was the Yankees during Spring Training...and we were happy to have even that! I think fans get turned off when they win a World Series, and then the owners basically tear the team apart to save money...and then the fans are left feeling like "we've got to start all over."

Unfortunately for both those franchises, it has been a long time since they have been winning. I know that the Dolphins made the payoffs in 2008, but it will still take some time to develop the fan base again. The Dolphins just haven't really recovered after Dan Marino retired.
I think it also has something to do with football fans showing more and more interest in the Bucs and Jags too.
Thumbs up to those who agree.

Are you kidding me? The dolphins games mostly have dolphins fans, have you ever heard the stadium after a fins victory? It's loud. The dolphins have a large fanbase. The Marlins though, have a tough time attracting a majority of Marlins fans because of a melting pot of fans.

1s,t it depends of who they are playing?
certain teams, like the Steelers and Cowboys have a lot of fans, that really "travel well".
The Steelers are famous for buying up any unsold seats, in "away games".
"teams with usually low fan turnout at home that would otherwise require a local blackout on television usually end up selling out when hosting the Steelers due to Steeler fans buying up the tickets."

Also, to a lot East Coast teams, Florida is their favorite vacation spot,
so a game there is just a good excuse for a few days on vacation.
ie, you're more likely to see a of opposing jerseys if you're playing the Jets, or the Giants, or the Eagles, than if you're playing the Chargers.
Phoenix has a similar situation,
most people that live there, came from somewhere else, too.

I live in the UK and watch live NFL games on Sundays and have always wondered why the Dolphins have barely any fans at their stadium.
