Having ants ON your pants, as opposed to in: What's the difference?

He said "thousands!" and we went

with that, millions were for the best things

in life, like Hot Wheels and dollar bills.

We made the hole bigger and

compared pocket knives in the cool air

of a small forest, the day spread out ahead of us,

an eternity of summer.

Stolen matches and bottle

rockets, vivid blue sticks in

old lunch bags, a bounty

to little kings.

I remember feeling no

guilt, the ants feeling no pain,

the sun

yielding no judgment

on that day.

Upside down and a scratch on the back

of the pack, the red head bursting yellow,

the wick sizzling quickly.

We didn't know we had ants

on our pants

in our hair

every-

where, but we would not

have cared

we were making the world

safer and we were giants

in the woods

in a world

that someone else

had created.

Labor Day 2000. I pulled the motor home into a PowWow at 1am where the guys waved me in to park. I jumped out of the driver's seat into a fire ant mound. They were in my moccasin boots, under my skirt and up to the bra line. That was one helluva dance let me tell you. I had over a hundred bites! Someone moved the motor home...I was in the lake. I took two benydryl and passed out. In the daylight the mound was measured...over 8 feet across....and duly roped off so the other attendees did not step in it. Talk about taking one for the team...I sure did.

I love "bounty to little kings". I remember feeling like a giant over the ants and wondering how terrifying it would be to have a giant hover over me like that.

Wonderfully satisfying read. When is a book of childhood stories going to be published?

You have a knack for taking us back to childhood. Though I never made a habit of killing ants, childhood was so carefree. Nothing mattered except having fun.

thousands of moments and memories.. at some we smile and laugh

thousands of ants who's numbers... once were cut in half

one solitary firecracker..... one single foot of twine

tied to a a hogs testicles... caused his face to grimace

    but placed a smile

    on mine

This takes me back. I remember something doing stuff like this when I was a kid. Reading this made me smile. Things were so much more fun and exciting when everything was so new.

"the ants feeling no pain" lol

    A good read mate.

Makes me want to come over & play with you

though not in a gay way of course

not that there's anything wrong with that

  • Very "I've been there" and now I'm back.

We'd blow slugs to smitherines with fire

    crackers. They explode quite well.

I'd come over and play as well, but

    my shoes are dirty.

    words are full

    of stories

    that remind us

    words are full

    of regret

    until....

    we remember

    we are not full yet
