California Voters Say Cut Government Spending, Don’t Raise Taxes?
"Californians will vote next Tuesday on a series of budget-related propositions, and one thing is clear from new Rasmussen Reports telephone polling in the state: Voters aren’t in the mood for tax increases to ease California’s budget woes.
Seventy-three percent (73%) of California voters oppose raising state income taxes to eliminate the budget deficit. Raising the state sales tax is opposed by 69%.
At the same time, 69% favor major cuts in government spending to eliminate the budget deficit. Just 16% oppose the spending cuts.
There is strong support for one concept that will be on the ballot next week. Ninety percent (90%) of voters say legislators should not get a pay raise if they fail to pass a balanced budget. Just five percent (5%) disagree.
In fact, most California voters want to go even further. Seventy percent (70%) believe that if the legislators can’t balance the budget, they should take a significant pay cut. "

Why can't we apply that to the national scene as well?
Orion, they are saying they will cuts schools. They always go for the muscle to scare voters to approve tax hikes. However, there are a LOT of programs that can be cut that don't impact schools or roads. Ca govt has been running around like a teenager with a new credit card, and THOSE programs need to be cut.
Ron Paulocaust, I think it was on the upswing of the dot-com bubble at the time is what I think of that. I think we need to turn back to sensible economics not Keynesian pyramid schemes, but that is a separate discussion.

Funny but I have been talking to some friends out there and they say it's time to tighten the belt. ONe lady is liberal and she even said enough is enough. It's like al the programs for everyone legal, illegal it is just too much for them to bear.
You overload the boat and if you don't have enough rowing it stops and that's what has happened. They are already being taxed to the max she said and I mentioned the tag tax and she went ballistic. When Arnold said he would have to put thousands of criminals on the street that are illegal, then why not work a deal with where ever they are from to serve their time and we pay, it would be cheaper.
As far as the politicians, they have enough in the lobbyist money not to even get a salary. The sites that show what they get, the family members that work for the lobbyist making serious money, the family members that the politicians pay to manage this money is more in one year han the average income in my state for 20 years!
She menetioned the planning centers and how about 50% of the abortions are for women that have already had one before. This might be the reason for the spike in STDs and we all know how much the government funds for that. Cal needs big help witht he drug situation and might want to sub the job to Israel they have build an almost impregnable barrier and at a quarter of the cost. This can have a two fold effect as 63% of workers over there were "Palestians", which they could bring with them and then clinton would not have to import them. Althuogh these live in Israel as citizens and doubt they would want to live in the states, but probably wouldn't mind doing a job over here for a period. I would also suggest they build it about 20 miles inland from the border and then try and clean up the damage. Like the people from NO, god with the bad but many of the places they took them have 1000% spikes in crime and not sure if the Feds have given them extra cash to deal with it.
Yes yo may say liberal friends, but she is a great dancer and cook and fun, what can I say. Also here in our state we used to have little plants that emplyed 60-120 people making underwear, papaer products and stuff like that. The small town had four or five and everyone had a hob, unfortuantely they moved them out of the states and then the peple wnet n unemployment, then welfare. The government doesn't include these numbers in their figures and with good reason.
The $100 Michael jordan shoes that cost $2 to make in China, well that's great, but a hot seller and tons of meony. Why not bring that back here. Leave the rest of the industry which pollutes over there as no one will be able to touch them anyway to stop it. If the industry was here we could regulate the pollutin and also create jobs, but no.
We should be pushing for an investigation into the financial stuff, but they have avoided that. Really gogd PR job though with the AIG bonuses and the torture stuff and the Rush stuff, amazing how most Americans don't want to know the truth and are not supposedly nvesting in a stock market build on possible lies. Nothing to stop the rug from being pulled out again. Nothing to stop morgan Stanley from running the price of oil back up to $140 a barrel on lies again.
The next hit may do the trick and that will be all she wrote. No way to do what anyone wants as no money and that's that.i thought that th eBush administartion was run by a cyborg and now feel the same about this one. It just doesn't make sense what is going on.
In closing less fluff and tighten the belt, blah, blah, blah and have an "enchanted" 2009!

I agree with the polls. The only problem is when the few don't like the voters decisions they find a super liberal judge and file a suit in hopes of getting the voters overturned.
The reason this doesn't work on a national basis is the only way for change at that level is a Constitutional Amendment. Control of the money means lots of power in Congress. Only a few would vote to limit their power.
Also, the individual States are used to getting large sums of money from the Feds and may choose to not pass a Constitutional Amendment that will mean the money will no longer come from the Feds. Getting 38 States to approve the Amendment will be very difficult.
The above reasons doesn't mean we the people should not do everything we can to force Congress to do this.

If you bother to look up the financial history of the US government, you will soon learn there is no such thing as "cut spending". These words are not in their vocabulary, and not understood by anyone in government. Now, "raise taxes" is a message understood by all, and will be the answer to all ills facing the country. This phoney tax cut put into effect by Bush, only helps the already wealthy, because he also cut the amount of money given to the individual states, thereby causing the states to raise all forms of revenue to satisfy their needs, because they too don't understand the concept of less spending. So, in the long run, our taxes actually went up. Another good read, regarding "pork barrel" spending, is the history of the money the government was supposed to give to rebuild the homes in Homestead Fl, from the hurricane damage, where there were millions of dollars added on to the relief and rebuilding bill, well, the pork barrel projects are all done and paid for, but those in Homestead Florida are still waiting and haven't received one dime.

Spending and tax cuts make a hell of a lot more sense, regardless of if it's on a state or national level. Raising taxes but not cutting spending only gives the government more money to fund worthless programs that are still there. If you cut taxes AND spending, the people have more money to spend into the economy, and the money cut from the useless programs could be used to cut the deficit instead. It just makes sense.

It's not nearly that simple, either in California or nationwide.
If you ask people if they want higher taxes, of course they say no. If you ask them if they want less spending, of course they say yes. But that's less spending -in general-. If you ask them 'Okay, what programs shall we eliminate? Where shall we make the cuts?' then you realize they don't really want to give anything up! That's the problem. Everyone wants Gov. Arnold to cut spending, but whenever he makes a proposition to do just that, he gets huge, organized opposition. Nobody wants to make hard choices.
It's exactly the same on the national level. Republicans for years have been promising to cut spending, but they never say on what. They gather all their courage and come out against 'waste and fraud', but they don't actually list the programs they're going to reduce or eliminate.
The only people who come out honestly before the election with an actual list of spending to be eliminated are the Libertarians. And you might notice that we haven't elected a lot of Libertarians. 8^) Not being really in contention, they have the luxury of honesty. (Of course I am just assuming it's honesty. If a Libertarian president did get elected, he might well find that the very people who voted for him won't stand for the cuts he promised to make.)
So politicians (mostly Republicans these days but both parties to some extent) instead try to argue that they can balance the budget without tax hikes or spending cuts. And this plan is very popular with lots of people, even though it doesn't work. It's like one of those fad diets where you can lose all the weight you want by eating nothing but chocolate and Mexican food.

The entire Federal Government needs an AUDIT.
We have not been getting our money's worth since World War Two.
I'll bet they couldn't even accomplish this. They have no idea where it all goes, only when it runs out.
Government = "I can't be out of money, I still have checks left."
Term limits NOW, and HOW with them making the law.
What we do have are filthy rich politicians, who buy their way in by selling us down the river, and they use their wealth to keep their Royal Family (lineage) in office (with a stolen "War-Chest" no opponent can compete against), and in the same place eternally.
"The King is dead, long live the King."
Feudalism, new syntax.
Dukes, Barons, Earls = Senators, Representatives, Governors

As a California taxpayer I long ago resented the idea that every time our elected officials screw up - we need to pay higher taxes to solve the problem.
Instead of higher taxes we need to take a close look at what we are spending the money on and if those programs are producing value in porportion to the funds the consume.
For example - as a result of a 100% increase in education spending in California, we now have lower scores on standardized tests, fewer high school graduates who are prepared to take freshman level college classes, and a higher dropout rate.
In contrast - private schools cost half as much per student but outperform public schools in every measure of student achievement.
we heed to drastically slash school spending and replace it with performace-based funding where the school must provide a measurable metric of student achievement that the money is expected to produuce. If the program does not produce the stated goals - then funding gets terminated.

Another is to send material or samples of your work to them. The point is, put your stuff out there for the world to see it.
Samples of My WorkI'm not just writing this article to preach to young (or old) Comedians on what to do to get the job. I am actually going to post my latest packet of jokes that I plan on submitting. "Saturday Night Live" is going through a huge overhaul of talent, now that Seth Meyers is leaving.

The majority of Californians are against high taxes and spending huh ? They should have thought of that before they voted the tax and spend liberals running that state into office then. God bless.

Sophist rule.
How nice.
Nobody likes to pay taxes.
Nobody likes having to pump gas either, but it has to be done to keep the car running.
What we need to do is trim the drug war budget and the defense budget for policing other nations, and start saving the money.
A few tens of billions could be shaved off each and not even missed, if we kept our nose right where it belongs.
