    It was 'by God's word [that] the earth was formed out of water and by water.'(see 2 Peter 3:5) He created an 'expanse between the waters to separate water from water', this referred to the separation between the water on the surface of the earth and the 'water' above - the sky. After that, only then did 'dry ground appear'.(see Genesis 1:6-9) 'By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.'(2 Peter 3:6)

    Through Jesus, 'all things were made'.(John 1:3) The Word - that is the word of God - 'became flesh and made his dwelling among us.'(John 1:14) Jesus could command the 'winds and the water, and they obey him.'(Luke 8:25)

    the people made fun of Noah as he built the Ark . because it had never rained . the waters mentioned in the bible is not just H2O . it is any place man can not live . Space is referred to as waters . the H2O that came up from a mist and watered all the lands was a Geyser . the air was thick with moisture the planet was in a type of sauna . but under great pressure . much like a hypervaric chamber . the majority of the water H2O was under the crust . the firmament broke under such great pressure and released all that pressure . this created a vacuum and literally sucked the H2O out of the planet . and ejecting the moist air out into space . this is how the Ark was able to float . as it was in near zero gravity . the mountain it landed on was not the one He knew of before the flood . as the waters came out of the ground it washed away any recognizable lands . the lands after this event was named in remembrance of the lost land . think of how the scientist tell of the primordial OOZ . this OOZ floats on top of the water . now the Q is why did it not rain . it did not rain because at that time the planet existed under 2 suns . not just one . as Geneses tells . and god set two great lights in the heavens . the greater to rule the day and the lesser to rule the night .

    Comets. They bring water and hydrocarbons.

    After the early earth cooled, water was brought over hundreds of millions of years, each cometary impact adding a little more. In fact, it's still happening; we suspect the Tunguska impact in 1908 was a cometary fragment.

    It's likely that the cometary flux now is not much less than during the early solar system, as the Oort cloud has likely remained fairly unchanged since then. We can thus make good estimates of the rate of addition by measuring the number of comets, their typical content and the probability of collision.

    The more we learn of comets and early solar system bodies, such as by the Rosetta and Dawn space missions, the better our understanding will be.

    Edit:

    @Coffee Pot-

    Hydrogen formed during the early universe as hot proto-matter cooled as a result of the expanding universe becoming less dense. The process is called nucleosynthesis. Hydrogen was by far the largest part of this early matter, but also some helium and a little lithium.

    Oxygen only is created inside stars, as part of one of the higher fusions during the later stages of a star's life. All elements heavier than lithium (as well as most lithium and helium) have been formed within stars, and ejected into space when old stars shed mass, later to form more stars and planets.

    Water forms out of hydrogen and oxygen in a variety of circumstances, it is also present, as amino acids are, on many meteorites.

    OK< 4th grade science...BUT where did the oxygen and hydrogen come from in the first place?

    God created it...

    There is water practically everywhere that isn't (or wasn't) to hot. What would make you think there has to be a mystery here?

    Oxygen + hydrogen

    You know that comets and asteroids contain water right, and have since the big bang.
