Do I have to take out my filter media?

hey, I just bought some new plants and some seachem flourish. I'm going the low tech route so I need to know if I have to take out my filter media. I have an eclipse 12 system and I didn't get rid of/modify anything. I heard that the carbon in the filter needs to be taken out so the fertilizer will actually work, but I just need to know if its a necessity. I'd rather not have the flourish go to waste. Thanks in advance.

You should not take out all the media, but if you can remove the carbon, that would be helpful. Carbon may affect the concentrations of metals, like iron and manganese, and potentially potassium, copper, and other trace elements. You should, however, maintain some degree of filtration with filter floss or foam inserts-- those without activated carbon.
