Se cree que la resistencia metabólica a la insulina es provocada por la acumulación del ácido nongraso hepático que puede agravar (exacerbar) la resistencia a la insulina en total.

Concuerdo con Margarita. En ocasiones cuando se traduce hay que cambiar la categorÃa gramatical de la palabra para que tenga sentido en el nuevo texto. Por ejemplo:
"A RECENT study shows that..." (adj)
"Un estudio REALIZADO RECIENTEMENTE muestra que..." (verb+adv)
A esto se le llama "transposición".
