If Johnson wins his 4th title in a row, does that make him the best?

Or does the fact that the Chase allows the best drivers 26 races to play around only to be judged on the final ten somehow dilute the possible record? I refer to Johnson as the "Undispiuted King of the Chase" if he and Chad do their thing they are nearly impossible to beat.

Update:

Perhaps my "Undisputed King of the Chase" should be rephrased as "Undisputed King Of the Chase in the COT!"

I think the COT plays a part here too. The fact that most of the chase tracks are cookie-cutter 1.5 mile hurts as well.

That would make him the best there is right now, in Nascar with the current rules.

Nothing is stopping the other 42 teams from doing "their thing" for the chase.

Not in my opinion. The whole season used to count, but now more than half the season is spent getting "good points" days. Did Richard Petty or Cale Yarborough just ride around for almost a third of the season? No way. They raced to win. This format plays into the hands of someone like Johnson, who is more consistent than anyone else. But Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch both had more victories. To me, they are more champions than Johnson. They have the proper attitude, guts and style. Johnson is the reason so many people think Nascar is boring.

He is definitely one of the best. It is impossible to compare one driver to another driver in a different era. Back in the old days they actually ran stock cars not like today but they also ran alot more races and I'm sure cheating was alot easier because they did not keep a eye on it like they do today. Right now he might be the best. But of all time it's hard to say.

he is the best of the "Chase Era" but of all time I dont think so. there are all kinds of eras where there is one driver that is the best. I think someone figured out everthing last year and they said that if the chase hadnt have been implimented that Johnson would have only won 1 championship.
