But it was too late, Jesus had passed him by.?

Years ago, I remember reading some old religious books with cautionary tales of people who had heard the message of Christ, but had rejected it. On their deathbeds, these people called out to the Lord to save them, but they had had their chances back then and now it was too late "Jesus had passed them by."

I totally disagree with this theology, but but was wondering if anyone could identify a denomination that would believe in this "window of opportunity" theory. So sad.

Update:

I'm not searching for a doctrine that fits my ideas. I think the Bible says plainly that we have a chance to repent as long as we live. I just remember reading a number of these old testimony books and was amazed that people would actually teach this. Probably part of the "scare 'em into heaven" philosophy, like "don't leave this church without settling things with God, because you might be in a car accident", but even more hard line.

Yes, I've heard that from some preacher when I was still young in the Lord, and I thought that was scriptural.

Now I realized that many preachers use alternative schemes to scare people and to persuade them to join their group.

I believe that as long as one is alive, he always has a chance to repent and accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Obviously this is a false theology since the Bible records that one of the thieves dying on a cross next to Jesus had a 'deathbed' experience and was reassured by Jesus that he would see him in Paradise.

well, I don't know anything about "window of opportunity", but I know you can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't know god, and choose to reject him and live a godless life, and expect to get away with it.

If I were you, I would try to focus on what IS and what IS NOT, instead of finding a theology that you "agree" with. You may not agree with the truth.

I do not believe there is anything Biblical in this teaching and am not aware of any Christian denomination that teaches it. God bless you.

Not much worry about that happening! Jesus and god are constructs of man. There is no Heaven or Hell to be assigned to.
