Leak in ceiling below bath tub?
Have a half bath/shower and bathroom area. Awhile back six to eight years ago the toilet overflowed and caused a leak in the ceiling. Recently though where the same leak was if taking a shower or bath longer than four minutes either starts to leak or here water dripping in the ceiling. Not sure if leaks are coming from the pipes or had the leak before caused another problem in the upstairs bathroom. If anyone had anything similar or familiar what the problem is?
With mention of cost of repairs were trying to keep hopefully within 1500 to 2000. Any more we might just have to prolong the repair. Any rough guess on how costly work like this will be?

if you are handy you may not need a plumber. what you must do is open the ceiling (since it's already damaged) an inspect the plumbing. try to find where the leak is coming from. is it a pinhole in a supply pipe which delivers water under pressure. or is it the drain from the tub which is not under pressure (unless a tub full is draining). the drain pipe from sinks and tubs are not usually as substantial as supply pipes and can be changed out at moderate expense. look under your sink and you'll get a idea of what may be required. the configuration of the plumbing under the tub will probably be different but the idea is the same. a sewer pipe in the wall, a "u" shaped trap, and a combination of lengths of drain pipe cut and set to arrive at the tub drain. you can do it and you'll be proud of yourself when you done. then you'll have the ceiling to work on but that's a different talent.

My shower drain pan was installed incorrectly and the ceiling downstairs fell in.
A toilet overflow that long ago is probably not related to this current leak.
You need a plumber...and a hefty bank account.

I would think it's that chip, to test if it's the chip make sure it's dry and plug it with a piece of gum. If it's the chip leaking mend it with some waterproof resin. Leak Fix plastic padding.

We had that. It was the shower drain. Cracked the plastic. Broke the seal. Had to tear up the ceiling below it to fix the flange.
