why are conservatives so relaxed on abortion?

that's right. i said conservatives. i understand the stance liberals have on abortion. simply put, conception is not when life begins. and even after life has begun, regardless of when, there is still a necessity for abortion if it poses a threat to the life or health of the mother. it's a difficult decision to make. for this reason, i can understand why issues such as partial birth abortion are under strong debate even among liberals.

now, conservatives on the other hand have it very simple. life begins at conception. there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. so why then are conservatives so relaxed on abortion. why are they only concerned about passing bills which prevent only partial birth abortions if all abortions are considered murder?

Update:

triforce, i'm speaking of politicians.

Update 2:

ich, actually i have... and they always jump to the partial birth abortion argument. what about the vast majority of abortions which occur in the first trimester?

Because the Supreme Court has already ruled over 30 years ago that laws banning all abortions are unconstitutional. It's a losing battle, so they try to find fights they can win.

I think it is because people do not TRULY understand what abortion is.

In the eighth grade I was going to a very conservative Christian school in CA and during sex ed we had to read a book they provided for us about abortion. The written description was bad enough, but there were pictures at the back of the book of aborted babies. We were supposed to tape this up in class, so we and any younger siblings wouldn't be traumatized. But being the curious person that I have always been, I looked. Even at that young age I had my views on abortion set....that is was OK as long a woman was raped or if it threatened her life. But these pictures completely changed my mind!! I think EVERY person needs to see pics like that. It proves that abortion is NOT like removing a tumor and that a baby is NOT just a blob of tissue until a certain time. I am pregnant right now, and if I found out this baby would kill me when it was born....I would have no problem continuing on with this pregnancy!

The politicians are not more active in this cause because the voters are not more active in this cause. People don't want to take the time and effort to do the research, and are afraid of offending someone. If we truly want to stop the killings of millions of pre-born people, we need to understand what we are fighting against!

Liberals have the Supreme Court Ruling, known as "Roe-v-Wade" on their side. Currently, they have a liberal-dominated Executive and Legislative branches of government on their side as well.

For now, there is little the conservatives can do.

Now, given Roe-v-Wade, a blanket ban on all abortions is a Constitutional impossibiliby. After almost four decades, abortion has had plenty of time to entrench itself in the that which is socially acceptable.

The pro-life's only option is to seek banning certain forms of abortion in particular. There's nothing wrong with this because even this saves many lives. Currently, and realistically, that is the best the pro-life movement can hope for.

Things will change in favor of the pro-lifers in the future. That's a guarantee made possible, ironically, by legalized abortion itself!

For the most part, a person ends upo adopting as his/her own the very same political ideologies of the parents.

Currently, the pro-choicers are busy aborting many whom would have otherwise grown up and joined the ranks of the pro-choicers. Instead, their numbers slowly dwindle with the passing of time.

Pro-lifers are busy NOT aborting. Their children are among the increasing number of pro-lifers who oppose abortion.

It's only a matter of time.

I see it also. This last election, the same one where California declared marriage is between a man and a women while Arizona banned adoption to same sex couples, I believe a conservative state gave the right for a minor to get an abortion without the consent of a parent!

I think most people/politicians stand on the soap box of "no abortion" but don't care to do anything about it while off. Many reasons ranging from fear of social backlash to plain lying about their stance.

This is why many Christians have turned into one issue voters, honestly. It's not that they're necessarily in line with conservatives on all issues, but rather that they know that they only way to get abortion overturned is to get pro-life judges onto the supreme court, and the only way to do that is to elect a pro-life president.

They do this because they consider abortion another holocaust.

For the record, I do agree with them...but I feel like there are other important issues as well, that's why I'm a pro-life democrat.

While I am pro-choice, but how can you be sure that life does not begin at conception. Are the ovum and sperm, and the zygote not living tissue? Maybe you're referring to when the zygote/embryo/fetus becomes it's own person?

The thing people fail to do on the abortion issue is define their terms. I happen to agree that a zygote or an embryo is not what we should consider a separate entity inside the womb, and that it should once the fetus has brain activity, but there is still plenty of room for debate and disagreement on the issue.

They only consider banning partial birth abortions because Roe v. Wade deteremined that blanket bans on all abortion procedures are unconstitutional. The ban would be shot down if legally challenged (and you can be sure that it will be), so why go through all the trouble and expense of trying to get a bill passed?

Because conservatives don't care about abortion. They care about one thing. Money.

Abortion is a great wedge issue that gets conservatives elected. But when they're in power they do nothing to end abortions. Know why? Because if they did they'd no longer have their wedge issue.

These are people who do not care if a 4 year old in poverty has health care or not and we're to believe they "care" about an unborn fetus??? Right.

Compassionate conservatism stops where their wallet starts. The end.

because of the fact we at the instant are not ALL helping: "Gangster Rap, the land of pornography, the country which made a famous person of Paris Hilton and churns out extremely violent movies 3 hundred and sixty 5 days after 3 hundred and sixty 5 days from Hollywood." and because we additionally get to work out, first hand how those human beings crash and burn with drugs, ailment, and Suicide, that sin does no longer convey lasting happiness. i'm nevertheless surprised at how a lot of human beings do no longer understand which you will save on with God's regulation and not merely lead a satisfied life yet in addition a very relaxing life. you will possibly be ethical and not uninteresting! Peace!

Most people are smart enough to realize that the Supreme Court will never get around the fact that a woman has the right to make decisions regarding her body. She is a testament to the fact that she already has life, there is no debating that fact. The cells within her uterus, however, will always be debatable..
