Questions about Juan Pierre and Craig Biggio?

Why does Pierre wear his cap under his helmet? I haven't seen any other player who does that. does anyone else currently?

and Why did Craig Biggio's helmet look so massive? He looked like he was wearing an astronaut helmet

thanks everyone.

It softens the ringing sensation you get when some team mate or buddy slaps your helmet and thinks he is showing appreciation of your game play. Many people are sensitive to this type of hearing feeling.

Biggio simply has a larger than average head.

Juan Pierre probably wears the cap to soak up sweat so it doesn't run into his eyes, kind of like how welders wear a welding cap beneath their hard hats. Or, for good luck.

As far as Biggio's dome, the camera adds a few pounds to the head, or at least I think that's what he might say...

Biggio wore a jersey one or two sizes too big for him, which helped him get more HBPs (painlessly) and thereby get on base (I'm still peeved he didn't lean in to three more pitches and break Jennings' record). Perhaps the roomy helmet was worn in the same spirit -- free trips to first.

When you're little and playing in Little League, everyone does the hat thing. He's also probably got a tiny head being a little guy and all. It could be any of those.

Biggio was an old school type of player, and he wore the helmets with earflaps on both sides and tons of padding. He looked like a high-school kid out there. His uni at least, he was a beast on the field.

I miss Biggio... he was so cute with that giant helmet. He was awesome, but he earned a good retirement, coaching I hear. I remember watching him when I was a kid, and he retired when I was a junior in college. Great player! Funny sized head.

Dunno- I even met and shook hands with JP.

He's kinda little but really wiry -- maybe it just makes his helmet fit better. On Fan Appreciation day maybe I can ask him - he's quite approachable.

Biggio is a big guy - maybe he prefers extra protection or he just has a huge head (like me - sz. 8).
