Toddler nose picking problem?

My son is 2 and 1/2 years, and he has a nose picking problem. Every time I look at him he has both fingers up there. Any suggestions on how to get him to stop. It seems sometimes when I tell him to stop that he even didn't realize he was doing it. It's kind of like a bad habbit, but how do you break a toddler of a bad habbit.

P.S. he is child #3 with #4 on the way so I don't always see it and I think that is part of the problem to.

Thanks for your help.

I've been working in a Montessori school for the past year and there has been a lot of nose picking going on! What I've found is that if you just tell the child that its not nice to pick your nose and don't make a big deal over it because your child will most likely enjoy all of the attention. My best bet is to just tell him its not a nice thing to do and look away for a moment to see what he does. If he continues to pick his nose just say it again and hopefully that will stop him from doing it. That's what I did with the children in the Montessori school and they seemed to stop...Good Luck :)

  • you need to teach him its yucky.

EVERY time you see him doing it, pull his fingers out and tell him firmly NO. he will get it than.

I hate when I see like 10 year old's walking through the mall with a finger up there, its gross. He should learn now that is not ok. :)

    good luck.

nose picking is a very nasty habbit especially at his age, not not to mention its very unhygeinic. give him a tissue and teach him to blow his nose

Chili pepper/powder, on his fingers. Trust me, it'll burn enough that he'll stop soon enough.
