lol Well i dont want to sound like a cheater but, i have playied that game for a few years ( mybe not total war but rome non the lest) But my little brother had 4 mil gold and that was the only way i could beat it. You will have to have a massive amount of gold so you can build your armys up also get in little fights with your armys this will boost there lvls up the more fights you get in the better your armys will be hope this helps

in Rome.. it really depends on your faction to what strat you should use.. Normally i just keep my archers at the back of my infantry formation, Spearmen at the front, swrods behind them, archers behind that, horses behinds that.. Rember to reformat your army to match the approach of the enemy army, and have them attack your army first. It be a good idea to lure the enemy to your men, or flank the enemy with your otehr men (The best tactic in the game and ancient warfare.) never fails for me.. 234 battles won, 10 lost Carthage xD

Break their flanks and attack from 3 sides..... don't know how well that would work in a game though.
