What broadway / musical theater songs are good for auditions?
I have an audition coming up for a theater group, and any appropriate musical theater or broadway song idea is good! :]
I am an alto, but have a wide range. Lists of songs and websites are helpful, thanks!

If you're really good and want to show off: Defying Gravity from Wicked
If you want something more low-key, I'm going to go with a more original RENT suggestion: One Song Glory. Unless you can belt and sing high, in which case Out Tonight might be a better option.
If you want something older and a total classic: Some Enchanted Evening from South Pacific, or Hopelessly Devoted To You from Grease.
If you want something light and fun: So Much Better from Legally Blonde, or Popular from Wicked.
If you want to come off as the classic actress, just go with Seasons of Love from RENT. Everyone worships that song.
I hope I helped:)

I like Part of your world from Little Mermaid, Once upon a December from Anastasia, Ten minutes ago from Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella, I'm not at all in love from the pajama game and Strongest suit from Aida. An experienced drama teacher once told me that if a show is currently playing on Broadway then its not a good one to sing because its likely been way overdone. Some examples of this are wicked, phantom, les miserables etc.

Anything that you can sing well is a good choice. Asking for advice is a dangerous game; if you sing a ridiculously popular song, i.e., anything from Wicked or Rent, odds are the director has heard it a million times before.
Pick a song that showcases your voice well that you can make your own.
Oh, and don't pick anything by Sondheim. The pianist will kill you, and will probably play it wrong, anyway.

I can't tell you which songs you should pick, but I can tell you which musicals you should NOT choose from.
DON'T choose from:
Wicked
Grease
Rent
Sound of Music
My Fair Lady
Spring Awakening
Rent
Phantom of the Opera
All of these songs are very overdone at auditions, and you want your audition to stand out above all others.

im sorry to the girl that said seasons of love but no. you NEVER want to do a common song for an audition! you want to stand out, right? yes you do! so here's a little list of unusual songs from not so common musicals:
i want to be bad- from follow through
i wish i were in love again - from babes in arms
anything from flower drum song
*im not afraid of anything - from songs for a new world*
never never land - from peter pan
and this is a new one so i dont know how popular it will be yet but its my favorite: morning person - from shrek the musical
ohh and this one is good: blue skies- i dont remeber where its from tho.
good shows to get the songs from:
personals
millie
moulan rouge

I personally think that some Little Women songs would be good for you. You could try Astonishing, but it's a little long.

Season of Love from the musical Rent.
The best thing about this choice, it shows what you can do & it isn't over done like
Roxie-from Chicago
or
Popular-From Wicked
Best of luck!
