A couple questions about seizures, please help!?
My sister has supposedly been having seizures for 8+ months now. She has always been a major hypochondriac and has been in and out of the hospital for two years for a variety of things so when this seizure thing popped up last year we have all been very weary. We were wondering if she could be faking it. No one has seen her have a seizure, she is always found after a seizure laying on the ground unresponsive. She says she can feel a seizure coming on. And the doctors have said to her that they can't find what is causing these seizures and have her on a ton of medication. Now, after a bit of history my questions are what does a seizure look like when someone is having it and can it be easily faked? Secondly, can you feel a seizure coming on? Lastly, after having seizures for 8+ months a diagnosis should of been figured out right? Any thoughts answers suggestions on what we can do. Help please! This is getting exhausting. We are always getting calls that she has been found somewhere, no one saw her have the seizure but she has said she had one and so far this week she has been taken to the hospital by an ambulance three times after being found laying on the ground after supposedly having a seizure.

Heres the thing. I myself have simple partial seizure. Where I can feel them coming on, I just need to sit down and its okay. I have had a full on seizure before, But I was told that I never look like im having a typical "seizure" like the whole twitching tounge swallowing deal. Some people do not show signs of having a seizure. They may look like they just faint. But...with that being said, the doctors CAN detect if someone has had an actual seizure. So if the doctors aren't saying if they find anything, I could see why you're doubting your sister.
The doctors told me the same thing, they do not know what causes seizures. Please don't automatically assume shes faking it. She really could be having these seizures so don't take them so lighty.
I hope I helped. =[

Ask her what she feels before she passes out. EVERY single person I've talked to that has seizures feels this intense feeling of dejavu. If what she describes is anything like that. She's NOT lying. Unless she googled it.

Surprisingly it is quite common for some people to fake having seizures. You can usually tell because in a true seizure, the seizures will follow the accepted standard patterns, the person will often have nasty injuries especially to the head and face as they collapse, they may bite their tongue and wet themselves though this cant always be relied on. As they come round from the seizure they are groggy, sleepy and confused. It is quite 'convenient' that no one has witnessed a seizure in your sister, it can happen, but if they are quite frequent you'd expect some seizures whilst she's out in public or with other people.
There are many different types of seizures. The first are partial seizures which people can often feel coming on with a prodrome, flashing lights or a feeling of sickness are common. Depending on the type of seziure there may be a vague jerking of one limb, the person may go blank for a few seconds, it can be very subtle with these.
The other, most well known type are generalised seizures which involve a full on collapse to the floor and rhythmic shaking and jerking of all four limbs. Generalised seizures can be preceded by a partial seizure, so some patients may be able to predict what's happening and get themselves on the floor so they dont hurt themselves.
Lastly, epilepsy is primarily a diagnosis based on the story of the patient and the witnesses of the seizures. Since you dont know when a seizure is coming on, you dont know when to record the electrical brain waves to 'capture' the activity and proove the seizure. If in doubt doctors may film the person in a room for 24h to see if a seizure occurs then, however again , this is very unreliable. The way it is generally approached is to give medicine and see if the seizures ease off. If the patient is resistant to meds, it is likely they dont have epilepsy.
I dont want to pass judgement on your sister, she might have something seriously wrong with her, but it does sound possible she is 'faking' them. She may not be doing it on purpose to wind everyone up, she is ill in a way and deserves your love and support.

Some people will have drooled on themselves...wet themselves...Passed out. Often they hurt their heads during the seizure because of all the thrashing. It is possible that she is faking it however, nothing like this should be taken lightly. Trust in the doctors and talk to them about her hypochondria. Also, seizure victims can usually feel a seizure coming on. The symptom is called an aura and shows up shortly before a seizure happens. Once again...talk to her doctors about it, they are your best bet.

Hi there,
My siezures only started Xmas just gone and have been getting worse as time goes on and test after test no one can find out what is causing it and say that i dont have very long to live.
When she says "she can feel them coming on" these are called "Orar's.. un sure on spelling, this this what happens to me... the symtoms of an orara are very different for each person, so ask her how she feels, what changes before she has one.
Its very easy to tell if some is "faking" a siezure but you need to see it first. because what people think happens in a seizure is actually very different to what REALLY happens.
depending of how bad the siezures are she will make these funny and really scary noises like she is having major trouble breathing, her eyes(the pupils) will roll completly back into her head. and she will be completly stiff but be fitting at the same time.
hope this helps

Some people do feel them coming on. not all causes of seizures are easily diagnosed. just because no one saw it happen it does not mean it didn't happen. yes they can be easily faked. she should have an eeg and mri done to figure it out. if she is faking it, she is a real moron. you should try to be patient, it could be real. and it's a terrifying thing to go through.
