Since we have 4 terrorist suspects who were basically "caught in the act,"?

Should they be sent to Gitmo?

And what do you think about sending prisoners to (empty) state of the art, maximum security prisons? Why not update Alcatraz?

Formally charge them, put them on trial, convict them, then send them to federal prison. What part is hard to understand?

This article [1] explains the "act" in which they were caught. It is clear that these men would have liked to have pulled off these crimes. I must wonder, if not for the FBI mole that provided fake weapons, if they ever could have obtained anything with which to stage an attack. This passage from the NY times article is most telling:

"A federal law enforcement official described the plot as 'aspirational' — meaning that the suspects wanted to do something but had no weapons or explosives — and described the operation as a sting with a cooperator within the group.

'It was fully controlled at all times,' a law enforcement official said."

Yes, it was fully controlled at all times. This was a plant by the FBI. If their guy hadn't provided the fake weapons, *nothing* ever would have happened!

Listen, these four guys, if you met them, would probably draw our scorn. I wouldn't be surprised if they drew our pity. Without a doubt, they had bad intentions, but no crime would have ever been committed. Simply (and technically) put, they were set up. The goal, reading the reactions of all the pundits, seems to be to remind us all of how lucky we should be that Big Brother is protecting us.

They can and should be tried in American Courts. Conspiracy against the United Stated Government carries a life sentence. Put them in a Fed Prison. Maybe Cheney and Company can share cells with them.

Great question. It seems Alcatraz would be an ideal place to house these idiots.

But these four "terrorists" have their rights to want to blow up a temple or synagogue. After all, its ok to kill jews by their reasoning, isn't it?

I'll guarantee before this trial is over, the race card will be displayed in all of its regal arrogance.

I personally have no problem in paying someone to kill terrorists (the military). I do have a problem with paying to keep them alive for the rest of their lives. If we can't have the death penalty and all we offer is free room and board for the rest of their lives with no labor then I would be stupid as a terrorist to not jump on that offer. A cave or a heated box with plumbing--I'll take the heated box for $200 Alex!

No. They should be tried in the US and go to a US prison. The cell next to Yousef is probably empty so they'll fit right in.

These are not domestic criminals with constitutional rights. They should be given military tribunals at Gitmo and either executed or sent back to the point of capture.

Can't send them to Gitmo yet, they are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law via a jury of their peers.

They may be able to hold them there until their trial; but they are domestic criminals. As long as they are American citizens; they get tried for treason.

They need to save room there for criminal politicians, they shouldn't fill it up.

Alcatraz would be too expensive and it would lose tourist money.

    Our prisons can handle them
