Where did all the morals go?

I'm 18 and I feel like I have more moral fiber than most Americans. People randomly having sex and cheating on their significant others, getting everyone else pregnant? People fighting about religion, trying to put everyone else down? Everyone arguing about gay rights and discrimination? What ever happened to men marrying women, no one having sex until marriage, and everyone being faithful? Is anyone else completely losing faith in humanity?

Morals have been flushed down the toilet. I think about this a lot, and I think part of the problems are the parents, they do not train their children as they grow up. No one can say excuse me, I beg your pardon, this training begins at home. Society has lost it. How great your article is, and how glad I am that you have moral fiber, your parents raised you right, and I say hats off to them.

You're partially denying reality and being unreasonable.

No one is preventing men from marrying women. There have ALWAYS been homosexual men AND women. What is so moral about judging other adults and preventing them from normal behavior, like getting married?

If two people get married and find out x number of years later that things have changed, it's no longer working, how on earth is it moral to force the marriage to stay together, 'causing each individual to resent the other even more? Learn to admit when enough is enough. Others can feel/receive the negative effects, too.

Staying faithful is preferable-I'll agree with that.

My morals are fine...in fact, they're much better than the OTs. I would never, ever, ever stone anyone and/or kill anyone in any way.

They haven't gone anywhere... The feeling that the world will end and all the morals have disappeared has been going around since 2800BC.

According to Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words "Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end.

I am not losing faith in humanity.

At 18 it is easy to feel either despair or unrealistic optimism about the world. You haven't seen enough of the world to get a true perspective.

There are plenty of people in the world who don't cheat, discriminate against gay people, etc.

Plenty of men still marry women. How moral would it be to force a man to marry a gay person he didn't love or to be alone and celibate for the rest of his life?

There has never been any time in recorded human history similar to what you describe.

The only real difference between now and 50 years ago is that we are more open about what is happening, and we don't hide it away.

Read you bible, read shakespear, read the transcripts of court cases in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. You'll see that all those "ills" you mention have been a part of every human culture.

Sorry, dude, but utopia doesn't exist.

It never happened. People had sex before marriage. In fact the times when you speak of were some of the most segregated and racist times. You sure you want to go back to that?

Nothing is wrong with gay marriage. If I wanted to get pregnant out of wedlock then dammit, that's my own god damned business.

But I do agree with you one people not being committed to marriage.

No, there is south, east and west. Life is fall of ups and downs and the wind blows where it will, nothing to do with magnets, unless of course one is stuck in a rut.

If you think that there was EVER a time without premarital sex or unfaithfulness, or other so-called "immorality", then you are much more seriously deluded than the average self-appointed moral arbiters who plague us.
