Doulas, I would like to ask you some questions.?
I am looking into becoming a doula and just wanted some experience from any of you who are doulas.
Where did you get your training from?
How long did it take?
How did you choose who to go through to become certified?
Anything you want to add I'd be interested in hearing. Thank you!
I would like to be a postpartum doula as well so any answers about that are also welcome!

Hi :-)
I chose to certify through ALACE (The Association of Labor Assistance and Childbirth Educators). Though, I really felt my philosophy meshed the best with this company, I am re-thinking finishing up my finishing my certification through them. I really don't want to explain details here. ALACE let's you take as long as you need to certify. A nice plus
I certified as a childbirth Educator with Childbirth International, and if I want to certify as a doula - I think I'll do it with them. They have packages, and payment plans, and that really helps! Everything is done long distance - and another big plus (in my eyes) is that once you are certified, you are certified for life. They expect you to stay current and up to day, but don't ask for money every year to keep your certification current like the rest. You have three years to do the training through them, and they are really pretty lenient on your certifying births. (some organizations wont' count the birth if you aren't there before they are 4cm, etc).
Other training organizations are: CAPPA, DONA, ICEA, and more..
If you want to chat via messenger or email, feel free! I'll give you a cool doula board to visit, where you can ask questions or search for questions on just about everything from organizations to running your business.
Good luck!
