Should Rugby League have a bonus points system?

To give something to teams that fight out a close game or entertain the crowd with a lot of tries how about:

3 points for a win

1 point for 4 tries or more

2 points for 8+ tries

1 point for a result within 6 points or less

Under this system Wests Tigers would have received 6 bonus points for their last 3 games, Penrith last night would have received 2 and a crap team like the Roosters get nothing. It would give teams more incentive to play attacking football. What do you think?

    It's a good idea.

But i prefer the current simple format because have you seen how close all teams are on the ladder

It's still any ones game to take out the minor premiership and we are nearly half way through the season!! If we used your method the ladder would be much more spread out and take away some of the competitiveness.

For and against is crucial enough as it is, for example 3 teams finished on the same competition points last year and the minor premiership was decided by for & against.

Again not a bad idea but i prefer the current points system

    Rugby League Scoring System

I disagree, the bonus point system is good. It encourages positive play and rewards teams for playing expansively and being competitive. Scoring four tries is not easy. The incentive of a bonus point encourages teams to play attacking rugby and is a fair reward when the feat is achieved. If you finish within 7 points you finished within one score of the opposition (whether that be a try or penalty). Plenty of people complain that teams win by a penalty, drop goal or conversion so sometimes it is unfair to lose because the other team got one more kick over than you. The compensation of one point could be seen as insufficient from another point of view. A bonus point is definately warranted. Finally if there was an incredibly close game with both teams scoring 4 tries and the score ended up at 28-26, do you think it would be fair for one team to grab all the points and the other to leave with nothing just because one of the teams converted one more try??

I think it would be a grerat idea. Because of the bonus points, the first casulaty will be the ridiculous "golden point" when team are level. A benefit of the bonus point system is that teams would not slacken off if they have a good lead, similarly, teams behind would still have something to play for.

As Cricket Nerd said, send it in to the footy show, though the ABCs Grandstand would also be good with a copy to the NRL. Go for it.

I don't like that idea. I know it's used in rugby union but it doesn't work that well there ... the points ststem needs to be kept as simple as possible.

The only change l would make to the scoring system is to give the team who loses in Golden Point one point.

That a good idea mate. I'd say still keep the 2 points for the win not 3.

Send it in the Footy Show!

Naa im happy with the normal points system because its not fair if one team gets a win but the other still gets points,The ladder would be ruined and so would the game.

It may be a good idea but it will not be implemented. There is no need for it, but good idea!
